But on a somewhat serious note, it really is a scary thought for Sarah Palin to be President.

I mean, come on; I'm not saying it's likely, but what do you do if McCain wins and dies on May 1, 2009? I'm not trying to compare the top of one ticket to the VP of another, but think about that situation. McCain dying in the first year or two of his presidency isn't incredibly out of the question or anything. How can even conservatives not be scared of Sarah Palin being President of the United States.

The cabinet and other members of the administration will run the country, like many feel it has been for the last 8 years.

There are a great many conservatives who prefer Palin over McCain, as she represents their politics more than he does.

Our last conservative Prime Minister, John Howard, repeatedly broke international and UN laws over asylum seekers and over requirements to rescue people drowning at sea in international waters. Australian coast guards were required to open fire closely upon vessels containing asylum seekers if they were in international waters, in an effort to harry them away. A senate inquiry found that the government directives in place directly led to the drowning deaths of almost everyone aboard a boatload of 400 people (including 150 children), and that coast-guard help for them could and should have been provided but wasn't, because of government policy.

I thought that there was no way in the world that John Howard could win the next election after that incident. He would be thrown out in disgust, despite how popular he was before for his economic agenda. I was wrong. Twice. A man I regard as a murderous criminal was elected two more times over the dead bodies of 360 people.

I rather enjoyed the raptor that walked by the window. Then I answered the phone and, well things didn't go so well after that. After a second go around, I can say with all confidence that it's worth it to open the door three times.
