I'll be on IRC. Smash will be sleeping, because he is a bum.

Is there any reason to watch the debate tonight? I'm assuming it'll just be more of the same.

I've been debating watching the third debate. One was at least interesting because I didn't know what to expect. Two was a complete bore because it was more of the same. Then I realized that three has the potential to be the most interesting of all. Sadly, my PC is in a room that doesn't get TV reception and my laptop gets shitty wireless--trying to piggyback off neighbors. I guess I'll just have to wait to drop in until the debate is over.

I watch streaming CNN while on IRC (same deal, no tv in computer room)...I'm like 10 seconds behind everyone else, but that's really not much different than usual.

I think that's a good enough reason to watch it.

I'm not gonna watch it, because I think it will be just like the other ones.

if either of them have any big punches left, it will be thrown in this debate. its a last chance for mccain to do....something.... and the last chance for obama to make the impression that voters will take to the polls.

Yup. McCain has to pound one message to the voters: "Obama==Socialist". If he can connect Obama to his far left voting record and far left political buddies and make people question the Obama Koolaide, he's got this in the bag. If he can do it on economic issues, he's even more in the bag.

If he can't or doesn't, he's going to have a very very hard time. I really do think he's trying too hard to be nice. When the counter to Obama is to show that he's lying about what he's promising to the people, you can't sit there and say you respect the guy and that he's a good person. Can't go off on personal attacks either, but he needs to make that point clear by pointing at Obama's actions and associations. If he can do that, it'll re-energize his base, and put doubt in the minds of the middle.

Obama nailed it. McCain lost it on all the personal ********* looked like an angry hothead, and near the end just seemed tired and uncertain.

McCain tried for fiestiness and went too far. It turned to anger arrogance, and rudeness. Eye rolling, constant interrupting, focusing on negativity instead of trying to focus on the questions at hand, and rarely giving specifics to the specific questions he was asked did nothing for him. I laughed everytime he commented we needed to spend more on things such as special education plans and groups when he has said time and again (including tonight) that we need a full on spending freeze. Tell me how does that work?

McCain used to be a Senator I had a lot of respect for. I remembver dancing when I heard he won the primaries because I figured that at least if he won he would be someone I could respect. But in reality, after all the negative campaigning, whining about how his campaign to a turn for the worse because Obama didnt do what he wanted with town hall meetings (sounds like a spoiled kid), and the refusal to man up and show us as a country what he really wants to do without making broad statements and no back up has just turned me off of him.

Obama won. The campaign, the debates, and the presidency

How did Joe feel to hear his name?

Joe wrote:
"It's pretty surreal, man, my name being mentioned in a presidential campaign," he said minutes after hearing McCain utter his name.

I hope that if he manages to buy his plumbing company, he gets a decent stream of customers from this debate.

Obama 3/3. I liked McCain's response about Palin as president. There were also points where McCain would be pounding on something and seem to change topics and ramble on his speaking points. They both dodged their share of questions and direct answers, but McCain seemed to venture further off topic, more often.

The CBS poll of uncommitted voters, which has pretty much been the debate poll standard this cycle, gave it to Obama 53-22.

They also gave Obama a 17pt lead on handling the economy.

Obama: I'm talking to you Joe. You know how much you'll be fined for not providing healthcare to your workers? Zero.
McCain: Zero???!11!?
Obama: Well yeah since I said IN THE LAST DEBATE that small businesses would be exempt from the requirement.
McCain: (Dear in the headlights, spasms, creepy smile)

I think McCain was too busy reading his index cards last debate to remember that.
