So this is going around on LiveJournal and since it's been a while since I've seen anything like this on here, I decided to bring it over.

Whenever I have to do something like this, I am always amused at just how eclectic my musical tastes can be. Some of 'em are gimmies, others I doubt anyone will ever guess.

The rules:

Step 1: Put your iTunes or equivalent on random.
Step 2: Post the first line from the first 15 songs that play, no matter how embarrassing.
Step 3: Bold/Strike out the songs when someone guesses correctly.
Step 4: Looking them up on Google or any other search engine is CHEATING.

A couple of these I suppose I technically put the first two lines up, but that's because I hate incomplete song phrases, and also because a few of them are really obscure (if anyone gets #8 I'll be stunned.)

I will also confess that these are actually 15 of the first 40 songs off the shuffle option of my Ipod, for a number of reasons. Namely, I omitted any songs that were:

a) instrumental only (5 or 6 of the songs I skipped over fit this description)
b) from the same albums/artists as songs already used (this happened a number of times, apparently my Ipod isn't feeling very random, because I got about 4 songs off a single soundtrack)
c) songs I'm not familiar with because they're from albums Mr. Ambrya has on my Ipod that I don't listen to
d) not songs at all, such as stand-up comedy routines (seriously, I got three or four Robin Williams tracks and at least one Denis Leary)

And here are the lyrics:

1) What is this feeling of power and drive, I've never known?

2) Life's a show, and we all play our parts
AsuranConvict got it -- "Something To Sing About" from the Buffy the Vampire Slayer episode "Once More, With Feeling"

3) You'll never make me stay, so take your weight off of me

4) What to do? What to say? Shall you carry our treasure away?

5) Leaves are falling all around, it's time I was on my way Paskil got it, "Ramble On" by Led Zeppelin

6) Went downtown to see my cousin, plays guitar sounds like a chainsaw buzzin'

7) It wasn't really sad the way they said goodbye

8) By the last breath of the winds that blow, I'll have revenge upon fortunado

9) There's not a morning I begin without a thousand questions running through my mind

10) Welcome to the jungle, we got fun and games Deathwysh got it, "Welcome to the Jungle" by Guns & Roses

11) Lovin' you isn't the right thing to do PunkFloyd got it, Fleetwood Mac "Go Your Own Way"

12) Where once was light, now darkness falls

13) Shot like an arrow going through my heart

14) These are my friends, see how they glisten
ChanchanXI got it, "My Friends" from Sweeney Todd (the actual track that was playing was the Broadway revival, but I have the movie version on my Ipod as well and they're the same)

15) If it were love, I would give that love every second I had

Okay, folks, have at it

I don't know why, but I can't resist these. I set up a shuffle thing to do the hard drive and had to skip a ton of instrumental bits to get 15 thanks to Can and Kraftwerk.

ETA: This batch wasn't seeing any movement, so I figured I might as well fill in the answers.

1) I was sold up the river to the red slave trade
Wire - Pink Flag Track starts at 2:53 in the clip

2) I'm in the furniture trade, got a new job today
The Fall - Eat Y'self Fitter

3) Timothy Leary's dead
No, no, no, no he's outside looking in
The Moody Blues - Legend of a Mind ...and I thought this one was easy...

4) And in the element of light
The sun reflected from the waves
Robyn Hitchcock - Airscape I couldn't find a clip, but it's a lovely tune.

5) Standing on the beach with a gun in my hand The Cure - Killing an Arab (gbaji)

6) I sit here and wonder
I wonder what's out there
The Chills - The Great Escape

7) On a thousand islands in the sea
I see a thousand* people just like me
New Order - Leave Me Alone *correction to album version lyric

8) Secluded in a marker stone
Not only deadlier but smarter too
R.E.M. - 1,000,000

9) God bless the daylight, the sugary smell of springtime
Death Cab for Cutie - We Looked Like Giants

10) Fame and fortune: facts of life
Most of what makes it is useless tripe
Mission of Burma - Fame and Fortune

11) Asylums with doors open wide
Where people would pay to see inside
Joy Division - Atrocity Exhibition

12) Coming down
Sadie, I love it
Sonic Youth - Death Valley '69

13) She said, "I know what it's like to be dead..."
The Beatles - She Said She Said Smiley: disappointed

14) I can see
I can see when our hands are tied
I was the victim when you lied
P.I.L. - Attack

15) Pistachios turn your fingers red
Row your way back home, you know
Meat Puppets - Seal Whales

A few of these are were a bit obscure.

INXS, I think, but I'm blanking on the title of the song. I can hear it in my head though. ETA: Chorus goes something like "I ... I was standing. You were there...two worlds collided. And they can never tear us apart." I know that's the song, but I've never been a huge INXS fan, so I don't know if I've ever even known the title.

Eat the Meek is one of my all-time favourite NOFX songs. They played it last time I went to see them at the Brixton Academy, and it was pretty awesome live.

Having said that, I can't stand the fact that you can't smoke in concerts anymore. Really, going to see NOFX, or Manu Chao, or Groundation, and not being able to smoke a joint?? What the fuck is all that about?
