I am. Gore was up by 6pts on W going into the final day. And lets not forget Kerry was in a supposed dead heat with W second time around. Polls are for Democrat talking points, nothing else.

Gore won.

And there's no such thing as a tie in politics. A "dead heat" means it was really, really close, which it was. Bush just pulled ahead.

The election featured a controversy over who won Florida's 25 electoral votes (and thus the presidency), the recount process in that state, and the unusual event that the losing candidate had received 543,816 more popular votes than the winner.

Ash,

That article might mean something if we chose presidents based on popular vote. Fortunately our presidents aren't chosen by the mob.

In this case, they were chosen by a federal judge.

Wrong the federal judge said you can't just pick and choose which counties to recount the votes. It was the Democrats who attempted to steal the election and if they had encountered a liberal judge who knows they might have succeeded.

God knows you wouldn't want to take a couple of weeks to ensure the proper counting of votes in an election for president.

Plus, the electoral college is archaic. Do you honestly hate that democracy that much that a representative vote would strike you as "mob rule"?

This idiot named his baby daughter "Sarah McCain Palin". Why do Pubbies hate children?

"Sarah" is not bad, of course, but the combination... can you imagine being named, say, Richard Agnew Nixon Jones at this point in your life?

Of course it is. Mob rule implies violence, or the threat of.

If anything, democracy is majority rule.

Oooh, I saw where the station was located.

I have a friend who used to live in Johnson City and now lives in Kingsport (about 10 miles north of JC). All of the women over there seem to be a bit insane.

It's so funny when Republicans cite past election results. It's as though they aren't aware that the real data is readily available.

Smiley: laugh The average from the final day of polling before that election was Bush +1.6. You have to go back to October 4th to find a single poll showing Gore +6. Gore won the popular vote (which is what the national polls count) by 0.5% so the polls were off by 2.1%

Do you just make this stuff up?
Quote:

The final poll numbers were Bush +1.5. He won by 2.4 so the polls were off by 0.9%

So, between the two elections, the polls have been off by 1.5%. Obama is currently leading by 7.4%. Only 5.9 points to go!

To be fair, you missed the point of what he said. If there was a "proper counting" you'd have a point. What was actually happening was the the Dems were selectively recounting in districts (specific precincts in some cases) attempting to get a different outcome. Then when the recount didn't work, they attempted to recount again, and again, and again... The process had already gone on for well over a "couple of weeks".

By definition the electoral college is a "representative vote", while a direct popular vote is not. Maybe you meant to use a different word there?

Eh, it's a done deal anyway.

The kids have spoken.

Quote:
It's official. At least for the kids! The Scholastic Presidential Election Poll results are in: Democratic nominee Senator Barack Obama won with 57 percent of the vote, to 39 percent for Republican nominee Senator John McCain.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Since 1940, the results of the student vote have mirrored the outcome of the general election all but twice: In 1948, kids voted for Thomas E. Dewey over Harry S. Truman. In 1960, more students voted for Richard M. Nixon than for John F. Kennedy.
Results from key swing states are as follows:
Colorado:	McCain 61%	Obama 36%
Florida:	McCain 41%	Obama 55%
Indiana:	McCain 51%	Obama 47%
Iowa:	        McCain 48%	Obama 49%
Michigan:	McCain 40%	Obama 57%
Missouri:	McCain 49%	Obama 47%
Ohio:    	McCain 47%	Obama 51%
Pennsylvania:	McCain 46%	Obama 50%
