Berkeley Breathed is retiring Opus.

He is, evidently, going to write a children's book, but still...Opus, Bill, this is a sad day.

That sounds dire. Smiley: frown

A sad day for cartoons.

Doyle tried the same thing with Sherlock Holmes, but public pressure forced him to write his creation back to life. If you folks want to save Opus, you'd best get organized now.

He did, but brought them back.

Twice, technically (Bloom County -> Outland -> Opus).

Ack. That kind of sucks, considering I grew up reading outland and bloom county. But I have to say that I'd rather have opus be retired, then to be contorted into a shell of his former self (ala the simpsons.)
