How things have come on since I were a wee lad.

I'm sitting in the local hostelry by a blazing fire with a cold pint o' the black stuff.

We still don't have many of these new-fangledy WiFi hotspots here yet, but now I have this USB cellular broadband dongle, I don't have to sacrifice pub time when I want to trawl Allakhazoo and play MMOs. Smiley: cool

So I'll raise a pint to me hearty assylumites and alt-tab back into LoTRO while the barman pours me another.

Bottoms Up. Smiley: boozing

Tell me its a proper pub, with 'locals', who have their own tankards hanging up over the bar, and pineapple chunks in the pissoir, and a shiny carpet from decades of abuse, and not one of those places (usually Ansells estate pubs iirc) with books on shelves that you cant get off, and poncy sepia photos of 'working blokes' in the bog and a Thai menu....Tell me that, and you have my fullest respect.

Cheers!

Cold to them isn't cold to us. Their beer is about as cold as you can get anything, and even then it's not that cold. We had a hell of a time finding ice anywhere in London. Even the bottles of coke at a gas station, which were in a cooler, were slightly lower than room temp.

The beer was top notch though Smiley: thumbsup

Back home.

Guinness 3 degrees C as the Lord Decreed it.

Carpets almost transluscent, and locals greet each other with a Chirpy British scowl

Our Stouts and Lagers are kept (in decent pubs) at the same temperature as in the states - a couple of degrees above freezing.

Ale, on the other hand, has to be kept cool but not too cold, or it dies and decomposes (Don't forget that proper Ale still contains live yeast).

But yeah, crappy bars don't understand the concept of "Lots of Ice" or properly chilled Coke.

Is it wrong to desperately crave a Guiness before noon on a Wednesday?

DON'T JUDGE ME!
