Is it just me, or did McCain look really, really old tonight? More so than usual, I thought.

I don't think he looked unusually old. I did think he looked quite stupid though with his "Ha ha, I'll answer the question" and "I'm done and you didn't even have to wave your hand" crap. Also...

"I know how to fix social security.............................................................blah blah blah...."

Ok, John, how then? He did a lot of "Trust me, we'll get it done" tonight and very little explaining. Too fuggin dodgy.

McCain needs desperately to change the course of the election. He sure as fuck didn't accomplish that tonight.

I thought McCain came off as pretty juvenile as well. It annoyed the hell out of me. He didn't do nearly as well as I thought he was going to. I really liked Obama's answer to the "what don't you know" question with the details about his upbringing.

"What don't you know and how will you learn it?" was a retarded question.

"Well, Tom, I don't know how to read minds. As president, I will devote our entire nation's resources to a PSI project to imbue me with psychic powers..."

A retarded question never stopped Rumsfeld coming up with a retarded answer!

As we know,
There are known knowns.
There are things we know we know.
We also know
There are known unknowns.
That is to say
We know there are some things
We do not know.
But there are also unknown unknowns,
The ones we don't know
We don't know.

Politicians arn't what they used to be.

CNN is reporting Obama coming out in 20+ point margins on post-debate polls. Yeah, McCain may have actually lost ground.

WTF was up with the "that one" comment? That was a colossal mistake.

All in all, a great night for Obama. He even stayed on stage while McCain hightailed it off to the green room to throw the coffee table against the wall.

I thought that only worked from Chicago based IP addresses.

Thanks, Pikko! Registration has ended or is ending in a lot of states so I hope that, however folks vote, it made some small impact in getting people registered.

CBS snap poll numbers are coming in...
CBS wrote:
Forty percent of the 516 uncommitted voters surveyed identified Barack Obama as tonight's winner; 26 percent said John McCain won, while 34 percent saw the debate as a draw.

After the debate, 68 percent of uncommitted voters said that they think Obama will make the right decisions on the economy, compared to 55 percent who said that before the debate. Fewer thought McCain would do so – 48 percent after the debate, and 41 percent before.
[...]
Seventy-two percent of uncommitted voters remained uncommitted after the debate. Fifteen percent committed to Obama, and 12 percent to McCain.
Approximately the same results as the previous two debates. A win for Team Obama and a greater swing of undecideds into the Obama camp than to McCain.

Details?

Short summary: McCain is talking about something (can't remember what) and then, caught up in his answer and attempting to explain how he's different from Obama, he points at Obama and says...

"But that one..."

Is that a page out of Biden's gaffebook?

There's already a variation on the Obama O logo floating out there that says 'That one 08'.

Talk about taking ownership of a negative term!

Speaking of that, I donated to Obama the minimum amount to get the free magnet. And on a separate order, also bought a t-shirt from his website. Been weeks now, and I haven't seen a thing. Is this a portent of his administration's failings?

You should run ads about it.

Obama: If he can't get me my magnet, how's he going to be ready for the next Katrina?

CNN/Opinion Research Poll: A majority, 54 percent, said Obama seemed to be the stronger leader during the debate, to 43 percent for McCain. By a greater than two to one margin — 65 percent to 28 percent — viewers thought Obama was more likeable during the debate.

CBS News: Forty percent of the 516 uncommitted voters surveyed identified Barack Obama as tonight's winner; 26 percent said John McCain won, while 34 percent saw the debate as a draw.

Mediacurves: Independents gave the debate to Obama, 52%.

SurveyUSA: Independents, the most critical and coveted group, broke 5:3 for Obama.

In case anyone was wondering.

I have to say that after watching the debate and the following commentary that I have to agree. This was McCain's chance to make it happen. He had to really connect with the audience AND hit home that he is the more experienced candidate. I really don't think the he accomplished either. The next and final debate will be his last chance to show the nation the he is the candidate for the job, so unless he can pull a miracle out of his butt or Obama makes a major gaffe, then I think this election will swing for Obama. I'm going to make a prediction and say that voter turnout will be low this time around because I think that there are a number of ppl that do not want either an african american president or a woman vice president. Just my 2 cents. Oh and I loved the "we are going to fix social security" did anyone notice that he never mentioned how? I don't think McCain knows.

"I know how to fix _______", "that one" and the awkward little smiles when Obama turned his attention to him and his record all translated into a creepy McCain, IMO.

Also, sit the f*ck down when your opponent has the floor.

How rude can you get?

I felt bad thinking this b/c I know that McCain's body been through a lot but all I could think of is that he lurched around like Igor. I was waiting for him to ask Dr. Frankenstein if he could bring him another body.

Barstools aren't comfortable when you've got a cricky back either. Its no wonder he was wandering around even during Obama's speaking time. I don't really blame him for that, he's old.

**** the media. The "that one" comment wasn't as sinister as it is being made out to be. He was talking about some bill that came up for vote that Bush and his people had tried to push through, and in trying to distance himself from Bush, he said (I'm paraphrasing):

Quote:
You know who voted for it? That one (points to Obama). You know who voted against it? I did.

I don't think it had any meaning to it at all and it's nothing more than a media hot potato.

I think its a bit of a generation gap thing too. It sounds like something an older person would say, and I honestly think people are making too much of it.

McCain seemed pretty flustered last night. I don't think he was on top of his game. Gaffes aside, I think he was much more interested (at least at the start) in talking up the recent attack points on Obama than he was in debating the issues. His first answer was a negative at Obama, which I found to be an odd choice.
