bleh, I'm a total mess this morning...just had to watch the ex say goodbye to the baby since he's off to boot camp until Christmas. I don't even know how much information I should give her later when she asks where he is and such, since she can't really conceive of that much time. *sigh*

Anyway, I thought I would share with all of you how great my boss is. Yesterday I arrived at my office to discover that I had a new door to my cubicle! It's almost as good as getting a promotion or a raise.

I like that it's set up like saloon doors held together with a little clip. I was really hoping that meant there would be alcohol, but no.

Oooh, cardboard, very nice! Luxury. Back in my days, we made doors our of dead rats. We'd have to find the rats, capture them, suffocate them with our bare hands, and then skin them with our teeth. Then we'd stitch all the skins of the dead rats together using mice entrails, which meant we had to find some mice, capture them, suffocate them with our bare hands, and them skin them with our teeth. Then we'd take the entrails of the mice and dry them by blowing on them for a few hours straight.

And solar tape! Don't get me started on solar tape. Back in my days...

So what happened to your previous door anyway? Did it get credit crunched?

Well we're movin on up,
To the east side.
To a deluxe apartment in the sky.
Movin on up
To the east side.
We finally got a piece of the pie.

I live in cubicle land...there are no doors here. I'm the only one on the entire floor with a door! *beams*

One question: does fish fry in the kitchen?

And a quick follow-up: do beans burn on the grill?

That's packing tape. We used up all the duct tape a few months ago sealing someone's cubicle entirely. It took a long time, but it was worth it.

Oh no one was inside when we did it. By the time they got in, they were probably too tired to do much. That guy doesn't work here anymore. He moved to North Carolina, oddly.

Well a real mechanic only needs two tools. WD-40 to make things go, and duct tape to make them stop.

Nexa,

I know this may seem like a silly question but can't you have remote access and work from your house?

I could for some of my work, but I supervise a bunch of people and kinda need to be here.

Is this strategically placed door so you can zip into your Wonder-Woman outfit now that the stationary closet has been down-sized and outsourced?

Yeah, we've tried the remote manager thing before. It doesn't work well, at least not full-time.

I'm also of the mindset that while I enjoy the flexibility to work from home if possible (maybe you just need a day in pjs or maybe the weather sucks for driving), I also like the ability to "leave work at the office" and the lines between "work time" and "living time" get blurrier and blurrier the more you work from home. It takes a level of compartmentalization that I have trouble with if I feel like there's work to be done and I'm in a position to do it.

Lol, I was thinking of Les Nessman the Weatherman too, but hesitant to mention it as it's one of them age-telling things.

The amount of files that I work through during the day is staggering and my cubicle is right by the CEO's office and he sees my cubicle daily. I know that it irritates him to see the amount of files that I have, and he knows that I can't have just one working file on my desk. I don't know any legal person that doesn't have a zillion files everywhere. So I bought a Chinese folding screen and block the opening to my cubicle, so he doesn't have to see the stacked files.
