You're more qualified than Palin, certainly.

Ash,

You can't get around the fact that he hasn't held a real job can you? He's merely the product of liberal academia.

So you are punishing someone who, despite growing up in humble beginnings (silver spoon, my ***), was extremely successful at Harvard Law.

Let's not overstate this please. While we all hear the "goat herder" description, the reality is that his father was the son of a prominent politician in Kenya. His mother came from a wealthy family. When they divorced, his mother remarried an oil executive in Micronesia, who was also quite well off. When he was ten he moved to Hawaii, where he attended the oldest and most exclusive private school in the state, largely because his maternal grandmother had enough money to send him there. He then moved to California, where he attended yet another private school. He then moved to Columbia and eventually to Harvard.

To say that he came from "humble" beginnings is somewhat misleading. His family had sufficient money to live very comfortably for his entire life. He was able to travel extensively (especially for his age), and never wanted for funds to achieve whatever he wanted to do. His family wasn't filthy rich, but finances certainly never represented any real obstacle in his early life.

He's had a pretty interesting set of qualifications. Many of them sound like real jobs. Btw, working in academia is a real job as well.

Yeah. I definitely disagree with the idea that he hasn't worked at any "real jobs". It is relevant to observe that the bulk of his work has been politically oriented in some way. That's not inherently bad, but is relevant IMO. I know that the whole "community organizer" job has taken on it's own life, but I actually disagree with the way it's belittled by many conservative pundits (and the candidates). I'd have gone in the other direction, pointing out that his organizing had less to do with helping people in the community and almost all to do with voter registration drives.

That's relevant in the sense that what he's done is work for and with liberal political organizations for most of his career. When you're selling yourself as a moderate and non-partisan guy who's above party politics, it's a bit harder to sell that image when you go down the list of in some cases very hard left organizations that have formed the bulk of his early career. It calls into question the idea that this guy was just doing things "for the people" until he decided to run for office (traditional "Mr. Smith" story). He's been a far-left political operator for pretty much his entire adult life in one form or another.

Again. Nothing wrong with that from an experience and qualifications perspective, but something that many voters might think twice about.
