Let's ***** over the bill designed to save the economy!! Smiley: madSmiley: mad

let's not pretend that this was all about the Republicans failing to meet their bi-partisan agreement.
It was completely about that. Boehner & Co were tasked with getting 75 votes. They claimed to have them, hence the bill went forward. They didn't. They failed. I know you really don't want to admit this but that's what happened.
Quote:
Er. Except the Dems *didn't* provide their promised votes either.
Yeah, they did. Had the Republicans provided the 75 they promised, everything would have been ducky. You know why that is?

Hint -- Because the Democrats provided their promised allotment.

Yeah, I made the hint real obvious since you're having so much trouble.

While I'm happy it didn't pass, I loves me some Barney.

Sure, if you were desperate for an excuse as to why your party is filled with thin-skinned crybabies, better at throwing tantrums than at helping the country.

I know you're going to knee-jerk defend them to the last but I find it hilarious that you're actually trying to mount a defense and spin about GOP people admitting that a speech made them so-darn-tootin-mad that they scuttled a bill designed to save the nation from economic crisis out of pique.

I didn't. I blamed the impotent GOP leadership who can't get their kindergarten class to set aside their hurt little feelings for the greater good.

Maybe on your way to blame Pelosi some more you can buy them all lollipops and teddy bears.

Ya know what really grinds my gears?

The term "Liberal Media Biased".

I mean seriously Gbaji, they gave you your own fucking channel, a bunch of tabloid newspapers, & Rush Limbaugh.

All we really have is NPR, & like, maybe 10% of us can even bother to put it on.

But you don't have us spouting off about Conservative Media Bias, do you?

Cause that's one syllable too many.

Let's say there's a kid hanging from two pieces of rope on either side of a gorge. On one side is Mr. D. Crat and his five men and on the other is Mr. R. Publican and his fgive men. R. Publican suggests that both sides work together to help the kid, and so they do. However, just before the kid reaches safety, one of D. Crat's men starts arguing with one of Mr. R . Publican's men. In response, two of the Reepublicans drop the rope, and the child fals screaming to its death.

The kid had nothing to do with the argument, so taking out hurt feelings on the child is pretty ******* moronic. The lion's share of the blame goes to the Republicans. The Democrats could have stopped sniping, but it's not like the Republican party had stopped sniping. In any case, it's no excuse to vote no on a bill you believe will save the economy.

Gbaji seems to have skipped Intro to Civics that day. The president (and presidental nominee in an election year) are considered party leaders who are tasked with driving party policy and getting the rest of their party to support them. Which is why it's supposed to mean something when a candidate says "If president, I will reinstate the draft" despite the fact that reinstating the draft would require an act of Congress.

The moderator at the first vp debate is actually in the process of writing an I love Obama book.
The moderator of the second debate, Tom Brokaw, has advocated for McCain to NBC
NYT wrote:
Mr. Brokaw said he had also conducted some shuttle diplomacy in recent weeks between NBC and the McCain campaign. His mission, he said, was to assure the candidate’s aides that — despite some negative on-air commentary by Mr. Olbermann in particular — Mr. McCain could still get a fair shake from NBC News. Mr. Brokaw said he had been told by a senior McCain aide, whom he did not name, that the campaign had been reluctant to accept an NBC representative as one of the moderators of the three presidential debates — until his name was invoked.
ZOMG MEDIA BIAS THE DEBATES ARE RUINED!!!

It's debate moderation, not a SCotUS post. It's more than possible to ask pre-scripted questions and keep time without showing a bias.

I think it's more telling the leader of the Dems, Obama, didn't put any time in to actually get the bill passed, nor did Pelosi work to convince her recaltriant 40%-ers to get onboard either. The bill was intended to fail for two reasons:
1) No one wants to commit themselves until they see which way the wind is blowing, particularly in an election year, and

2) $700 billion is toxic until the public is willing to accept a dollar amount that seems reasonable to solve this crisis.

Placing any kind of blame on the Republicans ignores the fact that if the Dems wanted to be heroes, they could have been, but they chose specifically not to be. Instead, as the majority party they let the opportunity slip away. I'm not saying it's right or wrong, just that the Republicans aren't the culprit here for the outcome.

The Ifill book sounds more like an analysis of modern African-American politics and its recent history with Obama as the anchoring example than a love-fest book about the junior Prairie State Senator:
Amazon.com wrote:
Ifill argues that the Black political structure formed during the Civil Rights movement is giving way to a generation of men and women who are the direct beneficiaries of the struggles of the 1960s. She offers incisive, detailed profiles of such prominent leaders as Newark Mayor Cory Booker, Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick, and U.S. Congressman Artur Davis of Alabama, and also covers up-and-coming figures from across the nation. Drawing on interviews with power brokers like Senator Obama, former Secretary of State Colin Powell, Vernon Jordan, the Reverend Jesse Jackson, and many others, as well as her own razor-sharp observations and analysis of such issues as generational conflict and the "black enough" conundrum, Ifill shows why this is a pivotal moment in American history.
