I'm worried that knox and gbaji will brainwash me, so I'm just going to go ahead and get it out of the way. Has anyone else already voted, or plan to early?

I don't know why everyone doesn't, honestly.

I'm working the polls on Nov 4th anyway so I may as well vote then.

Besides, what if Obama shanks you on Nov 3rd? You'll feel silly then.

You've obviously heard this said incorrectly.

"Shank me once, shame on... m-me.

....

You can't shank me again."

Get it right. :P

The first one. The Illinois term is "Election Judge"

I used to be a part-time Electoral Official, called in just for elections. I sat at a table and distributed voting ballots for both houses of Parliament, individually signed by me on the spot, with a little spiel, and ticked people off the Roll. Later that night I'd participate in the count. I did three elections, and then got too sick to do it any more. I really regret that. I was only a tiny cog in a very big wheel, but it made me happy to participate in what I consider such an important process, and something that really works quite well in Australia, all things considered, although I suppose things could be better still.

Was nice money, too. Smiley: grin

Too debilitated, weakened, and too much pain to work or study since 1995. It got old, I can tell you. Myalgic Encephalomylitis, if you're curios. Link to a peer-reviewed meta-study paper.

My election judge job sounds about the same. Distributing ballots, checking registration, making sure no one shoves a million false ballots into the machine, etc. The "judge" part, I'm guessing, comes from the fact that we have authority as a panel (me and the other four judges) to pass judgement in case of a question of registration validity and decide if they should get a full ballot, provisional ballot, etc.

I get paid, too. I forget how much... I think it's like $100 but you need to serve a full 15 hour day plus attend training before hand.

This will be the first time I'll receive an early ballot. However, I'm somewhat facinated by the fact that there has been no debates yet and there will be a lot of folks doing just as Nexa says. I really would like to see a decent debate before I officialize my decision.

If I was at all on the fence, I might wait for a debate. I had no reason to wait. I don't think that Obama or McCain are likely to announce in a debate that they've decided to change their minds on the fundamental issues of their platform.

I don't vote because I don't know anything about any of the people I'd be voting for

Uneducated votes are worthless votes. They're about as meaningful as the results of a multiple-choice test wherein the test taker just blindly guesses all his answers.

I know, and it's SO hard to find any information about the presidential candidates and their platforms.

Agreed. It just feels premature not to have seen at least one debate before casting my ballot. To top it off, I just saw this story and now it looks like we'll be waiting even longer. I'm sure the McCain camp would not be disappointed if they skipped the whole debate process entirely before the election. Then blame it on the Obama camp in a TV ad or something.

87% Barack Obama
44% John McCain

No surprise there, I guess.

My college got a grant to train people to be poll workers and go on election day to help out. Which is nice, because I get $175 for a day's work that's required by my Government class.

I been too busy following the new blogs to check into when early voting is allow here. Not that I expect my vote to change the results here in Maryland. Been years since I actually had to stand in a line to vote.

This will be our last election with touch screen machines and no paper trail. All the money we paid for fancy Dibolt computer system and just used state wide for 2 elections cycles in 3 years. Baltimore City used them longer, but still had to buy newer machines since state wanted latest version when mandated rest of the local election boards buy them. I still miss the tall gray voter booths that would magically appear at the school, 2 days before an election.

Election judges kept forgetting how to turn them the computer polling machines on, so we get paper ballots and scanners to read them. Still will have problem finding enough people to man the polls and not mess up with the few hours of training they get. Maybe they need someone willing to bring them chocolate chip cookies, like my mom would have me bake, when she was an election judge.

In the US ME goes under the umbrella of Fibromyalgia/Chronic Fatigue. I find most people have no clue to what it is other then the fact that they see TV advertisements for a new medication just approved by the FDA. I then have to explain why I don't feel need to spend their tax payer money on a new formula of a medicine, I'm been on for the last 10 years.

Because, I feel this years election is too important this time to sit at home letting my blood boil at how stupid voters can be, I sign up to help in what small ways I can. I hope to do some more voter registration this weekend and then hand out literature on election day. Thankfully I can sit on a lawn chair and take my time to recover, as no one expects me to show up for therapy the next day. Still I wish I could stay awake and make it to one of the many parties around town, to watch the results come in. I haven't done any campaign work, for presidential election since I was 20. I do miss the victory parties.

Adults accept that that which affects others, does affect them when they try to live in a society.

I may be able to vote, but I'm nowhere near being able to consider myself as "living in society", hah. Other than having a job and playing FFXI all the time, I'm about as disconnected from society as one can get.

Hell, I don't even have a driving license and I'm 22.
