NEW YORK - Paul McCartney's ex-wife is donating $1 million worth of soy hamburgers, soy hot dogs and soy chicken cutlets to one of the poorest neighborhoods in the Bronx.

I'm not sure why, but this article cracked me up. The obvious "what a good deed" crap aside, I thought it was incredibly pretentious to foist her vegan agenda these "needy" people. Ahhh, celebrities....always thinkin'.

There are going to be people who take it. Lots might prefer to go hungry than eat soy, but others are going to be grateful that they can eat a meal for free, and pay a bill, or get a pack of cigs instead. Or simply just eat, with no money for food or anything else.

I can see where you're coming from. If someone cannot afford food at all, then it must be totally horrible and degrading if the only thing that is offered to you is almost inedible horrid tasting mush, instead of "real" food. But it's not everyone that's going to find soy products tasteless. Indeed, hydrogenated soy stuff is so good at mimicking meat these days that most "meat pies" in Australia don't bontain ANY meat in them at all. People who are not vegetarians pay good money and consume in huge quantities countless soy pies and pasties masquerading as meat, not realising the difference, unless they read the fine print.

There'd be a lot more people who could eat a free meal, pay a bill or get a pack of cigs if it wasn't as self serving.

She's pretty much a confirmed ****. Whatever she needs to do to bolster her flagging image, I guess.

Not that giving to the poor in the U.S. is anything but a political statement, anyway.

I've never had a soy hot dog... Smiley: dubious... but I typically find soy burgers pretty tasty, though I wouldn't mistake one for a juicy all-beef burger.

I agree though, charity should not be used as an avenue for someone's agenda.

Also.. Smiley: lol at the article referring to her as "McCartney's ex". I wonder if that gets under her skin.

She doesn't owe them anything. She's not foistering her agenda on them but, with HER money (however little she deserves it), buying food that doesn't support organisations she has moral qualms with. She isn't making it so they never get to taste meat again. That aside, she probably donated this stuff because this is what her company makes.

I guess you'd object if a Jewish kosher butcher gave away his wares to the poor instead of sending them diced shrimp and pork scratchings?

This post also puts the "what a good deed" stuff aside.

I actually like soy dogs. They're not bad.

Soy burgers, though, give me stomach cramps.

I think you are all missing the big picture here, this is not about feeding the poor, or promoting a vegan agenda. This is about giving Paul a big fUck you by giving away his money in an a way that will be sure to make every paper and have people talking. Next week she will be donating a million dollars worth of faux furcoats for the needy in Africa.

The soy corndogs are not bad, although they a bit ironic (healthy corn dog for who?)

The breaded soy chicken isn't bad either. Both made by morningstar.

The local Adventists of loma linda make a good fake chicken nugget but you have to get the low salt.

Now that everything is getting more expensive, it is more competitive in price.

Here's the thing about soy hot-dogs.

Even if they're not fabulous, you know they're not made of assholes and eyeballs.
