warhammer launches todayFollow

#1 Sep 18 2008 at 11:03 AM Rating: Good
installing as we speak. no rush, best buy had around 30 or 40 copies and didnt see anyone standing in line for it. no one infact.

tried eve. tried ryzom. understand why they are free to play to a point. infact, they should pay us to play it. minimum wage atleast for beta testing.

dont think warhammer is gona be really big because of the pvp focus. but the first 20 levels in just about any game are ussually worth the purchase price. AC2 and now ryzom have been the exception for me.

see ya ingame. i expect it SHOULD last me untill mid nov when WoW expansion comes out. looking really really bleak after that for new things to try.

Yeah, that's why I quit FFXI pretty much. It got to the point where I was expected to do so many things I didn't really want to do, that the game became not fun anymore; and to really get anywhere I had to do those things.

So I just play Rock Band now; I don't have to wait an hour or more to do anything I want.

SR what server are you joining and are you playing Order or destruction and what will your character name be? I need to know if I am going gleefully camp your *** or avoid that server. You know, depending on what realm you pick.

well, so far so good.

no crashes. no real lag. no noticable bugs. so far, its as solid as WoW was on launch and beats the tar out of alot of others.

graphics - better than WoW, worse than EQ2. similar in quality to EQ1 as it is now.

quests are mostly solo. so far anyway.

pvp - been in two pvp instances, at level 3. very similar to WoW. join a q, wait for an invite. doesnt take long.

starting areas. finally they are starting to get it. many differant starting areas. have done the dark elf, high elf, and caos so far. gona do orc next.

high elfs are ugly, dark elfs are hot. the one wizard class for order are all ugly, male or female. just butt ugly. bad hair, bad skin. just butt ugly. they should let high elfs have a mage too. the wizard class for destruction are high elfs.

tons of people every where. 20 servers so far.

the action is button smashing, but no where near as bad as EQ2. just one to three buttons to smash....repeatedly....depending if your a tank or caster.

so far, its fine. the action is better than EQ2 or Vanguard, mainly because of the multiple starting areas and the shorter fights.

well worth the money. much better than i expected it too be. the character creation could have been better i think. a little heavy on the melee and a little light on casters. 3 types of melee. tank, ranger, and brawler types.

one type of caster. a distance nuker. no body did casters better than EQ1. and i guess no one is going to try either. a shame.

but they have dwarfs.

There are a total of 9 casters in the game, 8 melee, and 3 archer types. It's tilted toward the casters.

There are still a few bugs. My raid was unable to capture an objective earlier because the hero mob kept teleporting out of range becoming untargetable.

I really like the Gates of Erkrund scenario with it's varied height terrain and caster perches. Nordenwatch is far too open, making combat a little too plain, but adding more value to raises due to the distance.

Buff icons tend to annoy me, as they are used often necessarily. I have three second channeled spell that deals damage with no special effect, apparently Mythic felt necessary to place a buff icon on myself informing me that I am in fact channeling this damage spell as well as placing a debuff icon on my target informing me that yes my target is indeed taking damage. It's a minor complaint, but I find it distracts me from more important status effects.

there are a total of.....2.....dps casters in the game. the sorcerer and the bright wizard.

the rest you speak of are healers of various sorts with some damage ability.

there are two pet classes. by far the destruction pet class is supperior especially for pvp. the order pet class is like the beastmaster in EQ. melee with a pet and doesnt wear plate. the destruction pat class is a ranged damage dealer with a very strong pet.

for pve the destruction pet class is also superrior. it immediatly taunts mobs off of you and you can melee right with it and the mob will never turn from the pet. the opposite is true for the order pet class. not only do you not get ranged attacks, the mobs turn on you immediatly. you do get a pet taunt later though that helps.
i have had 3 mobs at once beating on the destrustion pet, and killed them all without the pet dieing.

destruction gets all the cool stuff. the order is very vanilla. plain jane. the only really intersting class is the melee class with the guns. think pirates of the carribean meets EQ. the high elves are ugly. the humans are ugly. the tanks are unintersting compared to the caos race. the only good looking race they have are the male elves. the females have ONE face that isnt butt ugly and its the same face you see on 95 percent of them. the dark elves are...HOT.

the order pet class is plain jane. the destruction pet class gets a hopping tad pole that you can get inside of and do melee if you want.

the order tank is your typical knight in shinning armor, the destruction tanks look like the lich king or the big bad guy in lord of the rings.

the order wizards are all butt ugly bar none. the destruction sorcers are....HOT.

the game is very tilted toward destruction. but the dwarfs are saving the day for order.

suffice to say, they need a PR rep for order as it is. the character creation program is very limited to boot.

as far as the game play? so far i have leveled 5 toons to 5 looking for the one that is most interesting. leaning towards the green skinn squig handler atm. but it is WoW with slightly better graphics.

it is going to make it for a while. depends on the top end content and how far the WoW playstyle goes. they did a better job with pvp than WoW. not that many instances, but the battles are easy to get in and out of and dont take alot of time to complete.

i give it a 8 so far. thats compared to WoW being a 9, Age of Conan being a 6, and EQ2 being a 7.

There are 3 purely DPS casters; you forgot the Magus. You originally said "light on casters," not "light on damage dealing casters."

Your definition of bias seems grounded on, in your opinion, destruction classes looking better.

----------------------------------------------------------

which is magus? besides a server i mean? which race?

dwarf is healer, tank, ranged melee/gun
greens are healer, brawler, squig herder
elves are healer, tank, ranged, and pet/melee
dark elves - sorcer, dps melee, healer
humans - bright wizards, healer, tank
caos mabe? they have healer, tank, dps melee

no one does casters like EQ1. no one. and i guess no one is going to try.

the rvr so far is pretty small scale. a group baiting each other behind respective guards taking a run out for attacks and running back. the instances are better IMO. atleast they dont start those unless there are enough people to make it interesting.

and again, its fun for the first 20 times you die, then it gets old.

have started 4 races so far. the most interesting, and quite possibly the best for pvp is the squig herder for ranged damage. they have a tough pet and it will not stop untill its killed once you turn it loose.

the ranged medium armor wearers do a whole lot better than the two casters. by far, the two casters die the fastest. their spells to about 40 percent more damage but they take alot longer to cast.

oddly enough, the casters dont get any cc ability. the medium armor bow shooters and the squig hunter get a snare. i think the sorcer gets a root later on. the bright wizard AE spell is........useless. dosnt do enough damage to put a dent in anything but might be good for running up stats if you run into groups spamming it for most damage even if you dont actually make a differnace on any one person.

so far, the destruction is wiping the floor with order on the two servers i am playing on. i was amoung a group of 5 bright wizards that got jumped by a green skinn brawler. killed three of us before he died. the two casters are pretty lame so far, but mabe they get more powerfull later in pvp.

the squig herder rocks. a snare, a pet that can taunt something no matter how hard you hit it. ranged arrow damage. and a pet than tank 3 mobs at once and win.

the elf pet sucks wind. will hold aggro untill you get close, and the elf pet class isnt a ranged dps. its a melee. get 2 or three mobs and they are beating on you, not the pet.

so, caster dps sucks.
destruction pet class rocks, order sucks.
tanks are tanks.
healers are healer.
medium armor ranged is good for both.

just my openion for pvp. they all do well for pve.

Chaos Magus: The ranged DPS, demon summoning class that mirrors the Engineer.

You've not really played the class, have you, Shadowrelm? The purpose of the pet is not to hold aggro, but to allow the player to land a hit that requires you to stand behind or on the side. Neither the pet nor the character can withstand too major of a beating, but the two of them together can take and deal out damage quite well.

It depends on the server, and if you're interested in participating in Keep Battles.
If you're on a Core Ruleset server, it's PvP in instances, and only around the various keeps that each faction is fighting for.
If you're on an Open Ruleset server, it's PvP everywhere.
