Cool, thanks a lot for the answers.

I think I've left it a bit late to get something done from scratch, unfortunately. I'm not sure she'll be so keen on RAM, since at home I use the computer almost exclusively. Alcohol is always good, but I usually bring her some champagne when I come back from France, so it's not special enough. And yes, a pearl necklace is always good, I'll definitely suggest it. But just maybe not for her birthday.

I'll check out the shop you mentioned, Nobs. And I'll take a look in her jewelery box and try to establish a pattern through the use of spreadsheets, and possibly pie charts.

See, I'd totally wear a cloisonné pie chart.

Ironically, of course.

Just found their web site and while much of it is more pricey than you mentioned, Stephanie Ray's designs are distingtive, stylish and reasonably priced (she's getting a good reputation and I suspect you'll be adding a '0' to her prices soon.)

This and this are unusual and might match a range of formal or casual or street-wear outfits.

Nobby, what in hell does "Bespoke" mean? I keep seeing it as a category on the UK based jewelry store sites...

I thought it meant custom made, as in they made it to a customer's specification and now offer it as part of their inventory, since they already have the mold and all.

OK, do you have ANY background in basic art lessons at all? Do you remember Warm Colours and Cool Colours? Basically, people's skin and hair can be Warm, Neutral, or Cool cloured. If your girlfriend has Brown, Yellow blonde, or Red hair, and warm, maybe tanned skin that is quite yellowy in it's shadows, (so her skin is creamy, beige and yellowy) then she'll look a lot better in yellow Gold jewellry than in silver...even though you have had yellow gold jewellry ruined for you by "Bling" connotations.

If she has dark black hair, or mousy coloured hair, or silvery or white blonde hair, and pale skin that has blue tones to it in it's shadows, so her skin is much more pink and white and blue, rather than beige and cream and yellow, and maybe she'll have rather pure green or blue eyes, then silver or white gold will look good on her.

Personally I like the second pendant (It looks like a Yin-Yang sign to me) a LOT better than the first one.

Firstly, that heart shape is very common, I see it around a lot. I don't want to be wearing identical jewelery to everyone else.

Secondly, the lop-sided heart shape in itself annoys me for some reason, I dont' know why.

Thirdly, Yin-Yang signs have a LOT of philosophical and cultural significance for me. I like having them around me.

Fourthly, I've never seen a Yin-Yang sign done like that. It's a unique treatment of it as far as I've come across before.

I don't know if I've been at all helpful, all those last points have to do with MY personal tastes, and we aren't talking about me.

This. Often used by tailors to describe "made to measure" and now used to describe anything made to the customer's personal requirements and/or measurements.

Just thought that I would mention something about that Tiffany heart necklace. It is very pretty, but I would only buy that for her if the fact that it is Tiffany and Co. will mean something to her. 95% of that price is for the brand name, not the material or craftsmanship. If she is familiar with the name, and it will really make it a special gift, get it for her. If she would ask "Who is Tiffany and Co.?" save your money and get her something else. Last I checked, the price of Sterling Silver was less than $20 an ounce, and that necklace is probably about half an ounce, if that.

If names don't mean much to her, you could find her something really amazing for that same amount of money (and it doesn't have to have bling lol).

You could always check etsy, if you're into that sort of thing. I'm sure you could work something out with a vendor to ship to the UK...of course, time is an issue.

Except for the a few very expensive pieces, I find most of Tiffany & Co. oversold and likely to be worn by more Yuppies then I can deal with.

If you can find a good Art gallery that sells custom craft ijewelry, you'll do much better in getting her something with classic design and unusual. Nearly all of the jewelry Jonwin buys me is from Art Shows and the Artist love to see that I wear them often.

Looking at the Ingle & Rhode site Nobby suggested I like this pendant.

The Liquid Silver necklace and earrings I own, that from my mom's collection is the best for special occasions and yet goes well with casual wear too. I have 2 sets of the earrings, as well as one of the 15 inch necklace and they are very heavy, so I wear them but for a short time normally. They seem to be mainly available in the South West of USA, or wear Native American silver jewelry is sold.

I'm not a fan of Tiffany's, and I consider myself pretty picky when it comes to my jewelry. I don't like advertising the store on the necklace. I'm not as gracious as Nexa, if I don't like it, I'll pick out something else. It doesn't mean I don't adore the gift-giver, but I want to love it and wear it.

I also don't wear a lot of silver. I suppose if I had to have anything from Tiffany's, I'd pick out something quirky and fun like this that said I love you without hitting you over the head with it. Maybe this if I were more delicate. It's very feminine and sweet. If she's offbeat and has a good sense of humor, something like this.

I concur with the statement about the black silk cord. It's only okay to give those on pendants when you're in junior high.

Personally, I'm a fan of Ross Simons, H. Stern, and for costume jewelry, Roberta Chiarella.

I'm going with the second one. The heart pendant . . . it reminds me too much of grandma jewelry, you know, the pendants that have the birthstones of all their grandkids dangling off a heart or something.

The second one is quite lovely. It will look great with a suit, with a little black cocktail dress, or with a T-shirt.
