Can anyone recommend some good materials for reading up on the candidates' platforms? Preferably from sources NOT associated with either campaign. I'd like to be able to justify my vote come November.

On the Issues is a good place to go to see how candidates have voted or spoken about various key election issues such as abortion, energy policy, Iraq, etc. The comments are fully cited on a linked page.

Honestly though, for direct information about a candidate's platform, there's no better source than the candidate. Unless I'm just misunderstanding what you mean.
