Floyd founder Wright dies at 65

Quote:
Pink Floyd keyboard player and founder member Richard Wright has died aged 65 from cancer.

Wright appeared on the group's first album, The Piper at the Gates of Dawn, in 1967 alongside lead guitarist Syd Barrett, Roger Waters and Nick Mason.

Dave Gilmour joined the band at the start of 1968 while Barrett left the group shortly afterwards.

Wright penned songs on classic albums including Dark Side Of The Moon and Wish You Were Here.

Wright's spokesman said: "The family of Richard Wright, founder member of Pink Floyd, announce with great sadness that Richard died today after a short struggle with cancer.

A more proper title would have been "The Great Gig in the Sky".

Boo.

You say the hill's too steep to climb
Just climb it
You say you'd like to see me try
Climbing
You pick the place and I'll choose the time
And I'll climb
The hill in my own way
Just wait a while for the right day
And as I rise above the tree lines and the clouds
I look down
Hear the sound of the things you said today...

Ah, a very sad day indeed. After watching 'Live in Pompei' so much(not the new bs 'directors cut' with a bunch of crappy 3-d sci-fi animation, the real one), I kind of got stuck in the sense that they were going to be forever young. I don't really like watching 'Pulse', because it seems too 'sunset' for me. My heart goes out to his family and the other band members.

My all-time favorite group. :( I began listening to them back in '74 and collected all of their work, even the weird singing-whale songs.

I shall do a dot of acid in his honor.

Yeah, you all probably wouldn't have guessed, but I'm a huge Pink Floyd fan. I've been following him for years.

But yeah, I was really sad to learn of Richard's passed today. He was a great musician and will be missed. Smiley: frown

I don't know this person (I don't know music at all, really), but man, it seems like 2008 is the year for seemingly-well-known people dying, or something. =/
