Things that are new:

1. A 40ft tree is laying in my back yard, thanks to Hanna. It's apparently going to cost 700 bucks to remove.

2. I quit playing EQ2 for a bit (maybe ever, who knows!?) so I could finally get around to working on babybooks, watching The Wire, and reading the stack of books on my bedside table.

3. Mia's purple butterfly room is now complete.

4. I started making a Christmas list today.

Ok, now you.

Explain about the 40 foot tree again?

I had last week off which was great but the weather was freakin' hot. I went to the wine country for a day with a friend and it was over 100F.

We had a 40ft oak in our backyard that was completely uprooted and blown over by TS Hanna. Crushed my fence and two Japanese maples too.

Boo.

Tell me more about wine country!

Moving, found a house, looking at buying it and the one next to it as a rental property. Thinking of taking the plunge with MrKatie into real estate debt.

1. I just finished reading my first ever Terry Pratchett book. It was as great as I'd been told it'd be.

2. My neighbour, the 21 year old black kid who grew up in foster homes, doesn't know his parents, left school at 16, and has no further education, just got a job as mortgage lender. The UK is a strange but beautiful place sometimes.

3. It's pissing down rain.

4. I'm not having a great feeling about this election.

That actually was my first thought. "Did Nexa bring Hannah south to mess with other posters' yards? How fun!"

The wine country is gorgeous in a way that I've only ever seen in California and Italy. The ground is subdued, browns and muted greens, but the sky blazes blue and the light has a peculiar clarity, possibly enhanced by heat exhaustion.

We went to a couple of wineries and sipped a bit, not too much. It was so hot out that the tiled and stone wineries felt wonderfully cool, but mostly I wanted water at that point.

That sounds like just what the doctor ordered, Samira.

We are off to the beach next week for a break. Sandcastles, beer and Wii!

Woo hoo!

1. Xavier just started his 3 week track out from school (vacation). His schoolwork has been amazing, 100's on his spelling tests and got honor roll for reading. I'm pretty damn proud of that boy

2. Ashe was diagnosed a few weeks ago with juvenile asthma. That sucks. But his verbal skills have taken a giant leap in the past couple of weeks and he's picking up almost a new word a day now. I cant help but laugh when Im driving in the car, Xavier telling me a story and Ashe tries to drown him out with "MOOOOOOM". Ahhh, the competitive nature begins. Smiley: lol

3. The Mr and I celebrated our 9th wedding anniversary. He promised me fossils on our 25th Smiley: dubious

Before you hire someone to take that tree away, put an ad on Craigslist "5 cords oak firewood, free. You cut, you haul."

Something to that effect will have people lining up to cut your tree to pieces and haul it away.... winter's coming, fuel oil is expensive and lots of people want that wood.

Thug kid: "The po' house? Shit, lady! Look around you! Every one of dees houses is po'!"
old white couple drive away. Thug kids shake their heads in confusion. "White people.."

New with me? I think there are some things new with me.. but I suspect it's just newer versions of the same old shit.

1. I went to a gentleman's club for my b-day last weekend, spent $500 on booze, and woke up at 5pm the next day. My pants smelled like depravity and shame.

2. I'm going to Taiwan in just over a week for work. I'll post pictures if I remember to bring my camera.

3. I've officially gotten sick of the presidential campaign and both candidates. Seriously, this one feels like it's been going on since 2004 (although I'm sure that, for some people here, it has).

3. Hannah has a tiny spot of impetigo and so has to stay home for 24 hours on antibiotics due to how contagious it is. This means I get to stay home too. I'll pass the time by doing fun things, like laundry, dishes, and touch up painting.
