So I was thinking over the past few hours, playing Spore and all, it's a fun model of evolution, or how we think of evolution. Every action can be seperated into either "fight", ***************** "eat" or "run away from". Fight or flight in the face of the unknown, etc.

There's this wonderful feeling of terror mingled with anticipation when you realise how small and insignificant you are but still how much you want to. The way my Yoshi-esque creature scurries around looking for remains of animals (to steal DNA from so I can get an extra arm), the uncertainty when he reaches a colony of strange beings and that odd feeling of hostility mingled with hope, mingled with fear. Reminds you of the playground.

And you get this feeling of overwhelming unity, of your behaviour mimicing that of creatures millions of years dead, and the sheer wonderousness of existence in all it's brutal, uncertain glory.

This is my first new computer game in like 2 years btw. I've also been drinking a lot of coffee.

Is it true the creationist version can only be played for six days, or was that only the beta version?

Going to grab Spore today for the mister. He's been pretty excited about this one for a while so I hope it doesn't disappoint!

I just saw bits for Spore in a Discovery Channel special about the planet's evolution in the next 100 million years. Looks interesting, with a lot taken from Black & White (with the Creature training and all).

Well sure. Naturally ministers would want to experience Creation and evolution for themselves, right?

Well, Black and White makes you a God-like figure but that seems to be alot of idolatry for me. I'll be over here with Bibleman and God's armour, fighting for faith.

No, the creationist version of Spore is the Sims.

With its expansion pack "The Sims at Church!"

I keep having to stop myself from getting it...
I don' want to get wrapped up in it at the moment.. but I have always been waiting for a new SimEarth. playing it on the SNES emulator puts me to sleep.

although everything I keep reading about it describes Yoshi... is that all you are limited to?

I thought one bought the creationist version with prayers, burnt incense and/or sacrificial lamb(s).

Clearly I'm going to heck.

I was going to buy the regular edition, but here in England, the creationist version comes with a "Buy one, get one free" abortion voucher.

Who could resist?

welcome back, Kelvy. Which types of Spore characters did you play?

I've created fairy people, elf people, lizard(aggresive), frog(social), dragon(industrious), and snake(very aggresive and no limbs lol).
I've found that it's much more realistic looking if you flip the extra parts like spit-glands inside of the body so you can't see them. On my snake for instance; I have the spit-gland and the antlers and health partsand such all underneath it's head so that if you remove the head you see all these little parts but from the surface it's just a plain looking snake (but colourful!)

All in all it is a good game... I have not gotten much into the Space Part. The Creature stage is by far the best.. it looks like the WoW engine.

It is less than I expected (not quite Sim Earth)... but being that it's Will Wright it does seem to live up to the expectation of enjoyability. It seems more geared toward kids.

and of course I would never play it sober

It's not limited in any way in the game itself.

I spent 15 hours total on the first 4 stages customizing my creature/civilization in the way I wanted to. I'm currently taking over the galaxy... I went for dominance :D

Perhaps I'll try one as a herbivore/pacifist next...

It's an enthralling way to play God, imho. Tons o' fun, well worth the cost, highly recommended!
