Kwame Kilpatrick (Black Irish) will haunt ObamaFollow

Newsweek's contention is that Kilpatrick's plea of guilty will possibly cost Obama Michigan in November. Between the ads, the loss of prestige, the force behind getting out the vote, and white's concerns about black patronage, Kwame Kilpatrick is yet another blow to Osame in another battleground state.

1) Obama doesn't need Michigan to win.

2) Detroit isn't going to go for McCain, that's beyond insane given the demographics.

3) Wasn't Abramoff sentenced as well? Oh wait, he's a white guy, right? Never mind then.

And did you see what Kilpatrick's statewide approval rate is? A whopping 2%. That makes Bush and Pelosi seem positively adored by the masses by comparison, lol.

Two percent?!? You practically have to be child molesting homosexual serial murderer of puppies and kittens to achieve such levels of scorn. Wow. Just... wow.

Yet Obama's remains the highest for any non incumbent candidate in 50 years. Odd.

I can't imagine it'll help in Michigan but Obama already has a fairly decent lead there and, while this may erode it, I don't see it losing the state. Anyway, better it happen in Michigan than Ohio.

The Dems are in big time trouble and they know it.

/Yawn. This is about the 100th time you've posted this, but I can assure you as a Democrat, I don't think our guy is in trouble. Winning in all the polls, way ahead on projected turnout, likely to win 310 electoral votes, raising money hand over fist. Nope, "trouble" isn't really what comes to mind. Boring and blow out election that the media is desperately trying to present as "close", sure. Trouble? Nope.

Sorry, little buddy.

No, inner city Detroit isn't going to go McCain, but the Kilpatrick mess may very well suppress the black vote and/or cause whites to vote en masse for McCain.

I have relatives that live right on Mack Ave and to hear them tell it, Detroit is a seething cauldron of racial tension. Something like this is just fuel on the fire, and in a tight political season could very well be the tipping point.

Look, getting blacks to vote reliably is very dicey under ideal circumstances, but when you add something of this nature, giving them a reason not to go to the polls is political suicide.

lol right.

I know it's right. Obama can lose Michigan, Florida, and Ohio and still win easily.

This is what you don't seem to understand. McCain has already lost several '04 Bush states. McCain has to win *all* of the battleground states to have a chance. Obama has to win *one*.

See, little buddy, that's why the GOP is panicking and doing things like the Palin pick. If they thought they had any chance to win otherwise, or that Hahahahahahaha, they were *ahead* they'd have chosen a less risky VP. They know they're toast, and they're gambling big. It's their only shot.

Sorry :(

Yeah, racial tension is likely to make black folks not show up, not have white people cowering at home. Good analysis.

$20 says Osame doesn't get 310 electoral votes or more, Smash. Put it in your pocket, give it to charity, or tip the poker dealer with it if you win, but my money is out there if you want to take it.

No thanks. While it's probably close to even money, I'm more concerned with him winning than covering the spread.

I'll take your $20 that he wins 270 or more, though.

Speaking as an average blue color worker that lives just outside Detroit in the suburbs, McCain will not win Michigan.

Yes and No, that area has always had high racial tension. Middle/Upper class neighborhood that borders on Low/No class side of Detroit.

Ask your relatives for a definition of NOMAD.

The suburbs are starting to feel the tension as many people are migrating out of the city.

All politics is local. People hate Kilpatrick because he is a slimeball, not because he's in any way BFFs with Obama or anything.

If anything, they look at Kilpatrick and ask, why can't he be more like Obama?

Speaking as a guy who drove through Michigan, I saw a whole lot more "Obama" signs than "McCain" ones.

There are more Obama signs on my street than McCain ones; guess Obama has TN wrapped up as well.

He'll win Knoxville by about 20.

Yes, because lying under oath means he must have been telling the truth to Obama. How dare Obama know his secrets and still support the man.

Of course, I know there are people who are actually retarded enough to believe that might be the case.

There was a decent op-ed regarding Kilpatrick in the Detroit News yesterday that puts his "legacy" in perspective: Kilpatrick wasted talent

There are only 2 significant things Kwame Kilpatrick and Barack Obama have in common: their skin color and they are both Democrats. A third perceived similarity is that a lot of people bet on Kwame and a lot of people are betting on Obama. Kwame failed miserably. The danger for Obama is that Michiganders may equate Kwame with Obama. However, given the state of Michigan (economy, etc.), it appears wholly unlikely.

The Kilpatrick fiasco has been inundating southeastern Michigan for over a year. Yet, the polls reflect a consistent lead for Obama through it all. So, if voters are worried about Kilpatrick=Obama, there doesn't seem to be any evidence to support it. Given that Palin's troopergate scandal is similar to Kilpatrick's scandal, Michigan voters may be suspect of her.

The fact that Obama is pretty likely to be the first black president should easily overcome this argument.

I'm not sure how he can win if he loses all three. I suppose if Obama wins NC or VA (which could lead to a tie btw: 269-269) while also picking up IA, NH, and CO, he could just slightly win.
