never, ever, even when EQ1 was new, have i ever played any game with such a HUGE learning curve. toss in the type is so small and simi transparent, it hurts my eyes to look at it for very long. getting old.

first impression, sims in space. get a job, slave away at it for months, mabe years, earn enough money to START having fun? thinking its why there is only one server. it is the ultimate "trade skill" game.

kind of like Earth and Beyond on steriods. and for some reason, the big guys with the big ships get a kick out of one shotting the lowbies. in otherwards, its the same ole same ole for any other pvp game with levels.

gona play with it for the free trial time, then try out warhammer.

Shadow, based on your previous postings, you know absolutely nothing when it comes to MMOs. You are right about the learning curve, everything else you're wrong about. But hell, it doesn't have dwarves so what would you care?

its true. just started. just got passed the turtorial, been ganked exploring 3 times in an hour.gona try minning in safe areas instead. seems you need a fast ship for exploring. or an invisible one. or a really really big one with tons of armor. gone try some of the other pve quests too. mabe the bounty hunter line. minning is boaring me just thinking about it.

im sure there is some stratagy for combat in here somewhere. right now, just set the orbit to max range of what ever weapon you use, hit fire, and hope he runs out of red stuff before you do. dont have any missles yet, so not sure how they might change the stratagy any. not real sure i plan on buying a ship other than the newby one you get for free any time soon. the fighting is very uninteresting. toss in all you see is a red dot with your target symbol over it. just doesnt have the same effect as seeing an orc in your face swinging and axe and grunting. just a little dot, some weapon sound effects, and an explosion.

the market is, well, basically the core of the game. there are many many ways to sell and buy. its huge. its mind boggeling. i spent the better part of an hour trying to figure out how to sell some minerals. tried selling ore before figuring out through some not so friendly chat that you need to refine it first to a mineral.

the new player channel is full of people asking questions.....that mostly dont get answered. and the official forum is soo chopped up it is really hard to find info on. the people really cant be bothered to answer questions in chat. i understand they probebly get sick of answering the same things over and over, its like that in many games with a learning curve. EQ1 was like that.

going through the tutorial is like spending a couple hours getting bombarded with information on hundreds of differant subjects that when you get past it, you MAY remember how to dock and undock your ship. then there is the little things like insurance for your ship incase, correction, for when you get ganked. and buying clones, like in start wars, with enough skill point capacity so you dont loose skills when you get ganked. over and over. pretty much just money sinks to take coin out of the game.

good graphics. very thought provoking. so far, extremly boaring. trying to figure out what to do and where to go is more like doing a term paper than playing.

its the perfect game for someone really into trade skills. mabe stats too, there are alot of ways to upgrade ships. or someone into figuring out complex puzzles as opposed to fighting.

The tutorial is very well done, much better than it used to be. There is no way, that during a trial, you can experience the full scope of Eve, unless you were to play 23/7. It's beyond massive. Your best bet for the trial, is to run agent missions. Keep training your skills. It won't matter much during the trial, but if it's something you'll think about continuing, I *highly* recommend downloading a program called EveMon.

If all you're seeing is a red dot, then you don't have your settings right. I see the ships I'm targeting. I highly recommend getting out of your newbie ship, and into the cheapest frigate for your race. If you're not Caldari, I wouldn't bother training missile skills early on, it will be a waste. Make sure to mine in .8 space and higher. No NPC rats, and Concord heavily punishes PvPers.

#7REDACTED, Posted: Aug 30 2008 at 8:24 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) thanks for the tip. i have 300k now, the cheapest frigate is 3 million not counting guns, minning lasers, upgrades and insurance. been minning in the 2 areas closest to the tutorial starting area. get about 5k per load.

There's absolutely no way the cheapest frigate is 3 mil. If you're not in the vicinity of where your starting area is, get back there, then make sure when you do your search that you're not just looking on the same planet / solar system. You have to do a bit of running around to pick up everything, but the costs it saves make it worthwhile.

If you plan to continue playing, I highly recommend joining a corp. I believe Eve University is still around, and they generally accept all comers. Very nice and helpful people there, it's a great way to get on your feet.

Most expensive frigate I found was 300k. The most basic frigate is typically under 100k. You're either looking in the wrong place, or selected assault frigates by mistake.

Maybe I missed it, I find your posts sort of hard to read, but what's your character's name, shadow?

I know a guy who had a faction battleship in 3 months of playing time with no cheating. He has a full time job as a manager of a store, so no, he's not some lazy *******. In fact he did it while pwning other games. But yeah, the average guy is going to go into that game and get eaten alive by the learning curve, and inbuilt fascism of the game.

And SR can't handle the learning curve on your average MMO, soooo expect another "OMG! teh game suxxs!" Post from him soon.

If it only had Dwarves.

500k and still pulgging away. i found a player sold ship i can afford, but going to wait untill i can afford to upgrade the shilelds, adn engines.

dont think going for damage is the best way as there is still no way i can compete in pvp with the peeps who have more time in the game. so gona focus on mining. thinking earning coin is the best way to advance being the skills are time based reguardless of weather you kill pitates, do pvp, or just build stuff.

so thinking instead of upgraded weapons, mabe more storage and better minning lasers.

the graphics are really good. i dont particularly like the ship controlls. i really prefer the hands on first person joystick action in other games than the push button and watch results action here. the economy is the life of the game. pvp might be big later on, but untill you have earned some serious skills, it is more something to avoid early on.

i find it interesting learning the game. but not excieting at all. kind of like bulding a model ship.

just a differant kind of fun i guess.

One of the main arguments I've heard with Eve, is that there's no endgame. With no endgame (read: cap, not content), the people who have been playing the longest will always stay ahead of the people who just started.

With no levels, endgame is really meaningless. There are different goals depending on whether or not you're there for PvP. If PvP is your thing, then heading to 0.0 or lawless space is your goal.
