McCain doesn't know how many homes he ownsFollow

#1 Aug 21 2008 at 9:13 AM Rating: Good
Well, technically, how many his wife Cindy owns. It's 7.

All over Google News: http://news.google.com/nwshp?hl=en&tab=wn&ncl=1238821424&topic=el

Also, according to McCain's $5 mil a year = rich figure, Obama is middle class.

Only his staff knows for sure. It's a fair question, though. How many are his and how many are his sugar mammas. Is he allowed to sleep in the big house at the ones at the beach, or is he strictly a cabana boy?

I suppose any place he feels okay bringing his current chippy is "his".

You misspelled "banging" there. I know you're stickler for that sort of thing, that's the only reason I point it out.

Wouldn't that be bad for him? Probably means he joined the housing market too late and it popped when he had 10 in his possession.

Nah, most working class families have six or seven investment properties lying around, don't they?

My sister in law and her husband, who are by all standards for north Georgia pretty solidly upper middle class (except McCain's $5 mil standard which they fall far short of), own one house and one chunk of land that the bro in law uses for hunting.

Sure, it's a really nice house in a really good area, and I guess you can call that extra 100 acres he owns investment property, but really. Even upper middle class folks generally don't own multiple homes. The American Dream (tm) is to own a home, singular.

I'm pretty close to having 2 homes. But the first is the family house that's been passed down (Nothing spectacular about it, 26x50ft, single story, full basement, 3 rooms 1 bath).

I'm not sure about the second, I think I want the piece of land next to us instead, but it's a hard choice. Land is so expensive around here right now. Doesn't help that it's all near a lake, and outside of the town so there aren't 100s of people around. That and I really don't want to get a huge loan again right after paying off my student loans... I like the idea of not being in debt.

Talking Points Memo offers this exerpt from Cindy McCain's interview with Vogue:
Quote:
It is a late Sunday afternoon in April, and I am sitting in a condominium in Coronado, California, taking in the view of the gorgeous San Diego Bay with Cindy McCain. She closed on the place just two weeks earlier, and the only things unpacked so far are the family photos that dot almost every surface. It's her family's second condo in the building. "I like the ocean, and the kids love it here, and I love that," she tells me, curled up on a nondescript couch that looks like it might have come with the apartment. "When I bought the first one, my husband, who is not a beach person, said, 'Oh, this is such a waste of money; the kids will never go.' Then it got to the point where they used it so much I couldn't get in the place. So I bought another one."
Bolding mine

My fiance's family went the other way. His dad inherited land from his family (its split by I-85 about 30 miles outside Greenville, SC) so they didn't have to buy any land. They bought a tiny trailer to start, and by the time he was two and his sister was four, his father had built them a house, mostly by himself. Then they got rid of the trailer.

Since then, his dad has spent his retirement adding a helicopter pad, an airplane wing, and landscaping the place to death. What started out as a patch of land off I-85 in the middle of ******** SC has turned into a half a million dollar estate.

Now that's what I call investment property.

And he never had a mortgage.

Well, I suppose it's good TV, but that's pretty desperate.

John McCain does not share finances with his wife. It's not strange at all that he wouldn't know how many houses she owns. Emphasis on "she". It's not like people don't already know that he's married to a wealthy woman. Shocker...

Easy counter for this though. McCain just points out that at least his family can figure out how to buy, not just one, but X number of homes without once having involving themselves with a partner who's currently serving time for fraud and bribery.

Figure out?

How much figuring does it take to be born into a wealthy family?

Start cheating on your wife with a 20 year old billionaire? You're right that is really easy. Somehow I don't think the McCain campaign is quite as stupid as you are, though. Granted, that's not a high bar, or anything...

More or less than assuming that McCain doesn't know how many homes his wife owns because he's so rich that it doesn't matter to him and therefore that means he's out of touch with the common man rather than the much more simple (and true!) reason that she handles the finances.

Obama made his home purchase with Rezko in full knowledge not only of who he was, but that he was under investigation for fraud and bribery. That's a true statement. It's not speculation. It's fact. Are you seriously going to try to compare that to the possibility that maybe the McCain's home purchases involved equally suspect partners?

Bit of a stretch, don't you think?

She handles the finances all right. And cuts off her half sister the second their dad dies.

At first I thought she was a sorry wreck of a woman, and I kinda pitied her. Poor little rich girl and all that. Now I realize she's a *****. (Not a c*nt, as her husband called her, however.)

Yeah, something the working Joe can totally relate to is your wife owning so many houses that you can't keep track of them all. And having separate finances from your hundred-million dollar spouse who buys new condos because the old one had too many family members visiting.

I'm not saying anything about the Obama/Rezko deal. What I am saying is that you cannot make the statement that McCain has not had dealings with shady individuals. You are making as assumption.

A stretch? The man did not know how many houses he owns. Houses. This has nothing to do with who does the finances. The man cannot keep track of how many houses he has. Yes, I say that he's out of touch with the common man. That or he's got dementia. Either way, these are not qualities that I am looking for in my president.

Is it illegal to purchase things from people under investigation? I had no idea. How's the legality on stealing medication for dying children to feed your drug addiction? You'd do time for that, right?

Hahahahahaha. Pathetic.

That plays really well with the "Rich people are evil" crowd, who presumably are all going to vote Obama anyway.

The "working joe" certainly relates to the idea of his wife knowing more about the home finances then he does. How many working joe's can rattle off how much they spend on groceries each month Joph? Heck. How many can remember their anniversary if their wife doesn't remind them? I think a heck of a lot of average people can relate to McCain on this. Sure. They aren't dealing with multiple houses, but they can certainly relate to a guy who doesn't know what his wife spends her money on... ;)

And I don't think there's too many working joes or janes who think that it's somehow wrong to marry someone wealthy. I'd suggest that some might see that as a lucky break for the guy, but hardly hold it against him. You've got to be full of that Liberal bitterness to dislike someone purely because of their luck and/or success. Again. This is something that plays well with liberals, but not so much with anyone else...

I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that the number of said Joe's is greater than the number of Joe's who can't keep track of how many houses their wife owns.

Just a hunch.
