And Clinton with Gore.

Well, in WA, the Obama flags are still flying.

I think VP choices, in a very general way, mean squat to the average voter and serve a more functional purpose than a political one. Such as an attack dog.

Maybe. There's no way we'll ever be able to establish that. I think turnout, particularly youth turnout will be significantly depressed by Biden as VP, with no offsetting gain in moderate voters.

I wouldn't know about other demographics, but youth voters aren't going to be significantly affected by Biden. Younger voters tend to focus solely on the president; that is why they are completely ignored by congressmen.

Hah! I've just figured out the next Obama slogan:

Vote Obama and whoever! The choice of people who don't pay much attention to politics, have never held a real job, don't have a mortgage, and are otherwise morons...

Admittedly, that may not fit on a bumper sticker...

You know, I mentioned Clinton and now that I think on it, I'm feeling better about it than I thought.

Clinton v Bush Sr was my first presidental election. I was in my 2nd year of college and we (myself and my circle) were all jazzed up about this young guy with exciting ideas, etc. Mind you, I was a lot less inclined to look into politics then as opposed to now so I didn't know who Gore was aside form "The guy who'd be VP if Clinton won."

In retrospect, I understand that Clinton picked the stoic wonk Gore to calm people worried about Clinton's youth, unimpressed by his experience ("Governor of Arkansas??") and all that. At the time, I couldn't have told you Thing One about Gore and didn't care -- we were excited about Clinton.

Also, during Bush I we were coming off a sucky recession where it was hard to get a job after college and Clinton seemed like a breath of fresh air. Of course, I'm really biased b/c I went to Hampshire College where a republican is rarer than an honest man in Washington, but still, we were enthusiastic about Clinton (even if he was still too close to the center).

But still, it's the economy, stupid, should be Obama's mantra. Biden be damned.

In grade school (about grade 4), I made, by my own volition, a campaign poster for Mondale and hung it on a telephone pole. True story.

Well, yeah. I was just playing out the line of thought.

I agree that it's absurd to think that the "youth vote" is going to be significantly impacted by this. Although Biden certainly isn't going to get them excited, as you pointed out, they really don't care or know much about VP picks anyway. I just found it amusing to follow a line of thought in which Biden is an ok pick because even though the youth vote shouldn't like him much, they wont realize it... ;)

So that pretty much makes it guaranteed. Good to know.

Well, if 4th grade counts, I made like 25k on the stock market.

I was gratified driving through Michigan last week to see that Obama signs outnumbered McCain signs by at least 10:1.

Fine. Young people won't support Obama because Biden is an old cootch. Better?

Lol... It's honestly the least significant problem with Biden either way. A non-issue IMO. The youth vote largely just blindly follows whatever they're told will make them appear to be "conscious". It's the older activist leaders and the political spin doctors who matter in this context. And they're going to have a hard time figuring out how to continue to keep hammering Obama's simplistic "Change" message in light of this VP pick.

I'm sure they'll come up with some more clever way to explain it all. But I think that many of the thinking voters out there are getting kinda tired of a constant stream of "explanations" coming from the Obama campaign.

100% of "thinking" voters are already for Obama, so this isn't a big worry, frankly.

I'm beginning to think satan himself could run on the Dem ticket and get your undying support.

You are an idiot.
