Yeah, somewhere in that range.

Don't want to jinx it, but that would be nice. Er. Oh no! Not Biden! He'd make too strong and capable and non-attackable of a VP choice!!!

Just to be fair. IMO, the last person Obama needs as a VP is someone else who's viewed as just as much of a liberal nutjob as he is. If he were to pick from someone in Congress, it should be someone who's a bit more towards the center than Biden. If his campaign is seriously considering him, then they're more out of touch than I already thought.

You've just got to be seriously stuck in the middle of a Liberal echo chamber not to realize that an Obama ticket needs someone with experience who's viewed as a moderate by folks in the middle. I think they're looking too hard at state numbers and not enough at national numbers if he's even in the top 3.

Biden's seen as a moderate by independent voters. You're right that it would be a stupid choice, but for the wrong reasons.

I didn't want to jinx the other reasons... ;)

There's like a list of easy attacks basically sitting around on the desks of every Conservative pundits desk on the off chance that Biden gets the nod.

And I'm not so convinced of the "seen as a moderate" bit. I've seen this guy on Maher's show several time. He seems like quite the whackjob to me. He's the one with the stupid idea to split Iraq into three separate countries, right? Ok. So maybe that's not so much a Liberal nut position as just a nut position. He's like the Ron Paul of the Dem field this time around, only not quite as amusing or charming.

Indeed. I'm not a fan. I think he's funny to watch in a hearing, I don't think he does anything positive for Obama, and I don't think he possibly makes it 9 weeks without saying something stupid.

On the other hand, he's an amusing hatchet man. If they're looking for that, he might be the way to go.

If Biden isn't a red herring, then whoever leaked the name to HuffPost is going to be castrated personally by David Axelrod tomorrow.

But, I pray to God above Biden is a red herring.

For those not familiar, the Washington Post ran two columns:
The case for Joe Biden
the case against Joe Biden

Personally, I think he was the best of a pretty mediocre lot. Clinton was never a serious choice. Bayh was a virtual unknown outside of Hoosierville. Kaine is young and doesn't add much to the ticket beyond hopes for a Virginia win and, as Edwards showed us, that's not guaranteed. Chet Edwards was less known than Bayh. Richardson pretty much dropped off the map and everyone says he'd be better in the Cabinet than as Veep.

At least Biden brings considerable weight in foreign matters, can act as a good attack dog and has strong blue collar Catholic credentials -- no one will be talking about his elitist upbringing, $400 haircuts, what kind of lettuce he prefers and how many houses he owns.

Obama picking Biden shows that Obama is not good at making big decisions. It is not too late for Hillary to make a convention comeback, do a little arm twisting and get a few delegates to jump ship. This is why the delegates vote for the candidate and it is not automatic once they win enough primaries, because things can change between primary time and the convention.

Well that is easy. She would choose Bill. The 22 amendment prevents him from being "elected" as president, it says nothing about being elected as VP or becoming president again by succession.

Ya, but you can only be President for 10 years so even if she died before taking office, we'd only get two more years of Slick Willy.

It could have been worse, it could have been Kerry.

Also, Biden totally name dropped a potential McCain/Biden ticket on the daily show a couple years ago. Even HE didn't think Obama stood a chance @ that point.

Oh thank goodness! For a brief moment there, I thought there might be an attack vector for the GOP to go after Biden. Phew!

This is a miniature disaster. Yes, the VP pick is close to meaningless, yes the Biden/Romney debates will be fun to watch. It's still a poor, poor choice. It'll emphasize Obama's inexperience and disenchant the kids. It'll open attacks on Biden's comments on race. "We're not saying that, Joe Biden said that". On the other hand the guy is terrible with money, so maybe that will appeal the the nine credit card having, upside on their home loan crowd.

Yup. Hey, feel free to make the case for someone else. Personally, none of the final tier particularly inspired me. None horrified me either but I'd feel more secure making a case for Biden over them.

My opinion, anyway. Don't let it stop you from wailing and rending your sackcloth over there Smiley: grin

It does not say that. It says that a person who held two years of a presidential term someone else was elected to, can only be "elected" as president once after holding that two years. Bill could become president by succession for as long as the term he succeeded into lasts. So if Hillary were to choke on a hotdog the day after getting sworn in, Bill as VP would become president for the entire remaining term.
