that in the unlikely event that it's Joe Biden, I'll be done with Democratic politics for at least a year. It'd be hard to find a way to lose this thing, but putting Biden on the ticket would be a great first step.

Yeah, too bad Bayh doesn't have Biden's Foreign Relations cred.

I'm thinking it'll be Bayh. Be Bayh, be Bayh.

'K, I've lost it.

Yeah, that's been the strongest rumor for at least a couple of months now, but Kaine probably locks up Virginia, so as value propositions go, if you're at all worried about that, it's probably the right thing do. That or Warner. Warner would be ideal. He definitely has a dead hooker in his trunk or something, though, the way he's scrupulously avoided national politics the last few years.

ETA: I imagined I posted this in the OP, but apparently I didn't. Biden has recently, in the last week, suddenly, moved to 40% on the VP futures market. Bayh is now tracking about 18% along with Kaine.

It's absolutely a small enough market that Biden supporters could have thrown ten grand at his contract and moved the pricing, but it's a pretty big move.

biden would bring some national secrity creds to his camp. thats his biggest over all weakness.

kaine might bring virginia but its too small of a prize to throw the vp slot at. especially when you consider richardson not only brings a swing state with him just like kaine, but he also brings a hispanic following boost that could not only bag him a swing state, but might even tip the scales in south florida and thats a HUGE prize.

so if its a matter of a swing state, it will be richardson over kaine. personally, biden might go alot further with the independants than any one swing state govoner.

richardson or biden. ill lean toward richardson. florida is just too big a prize to not invest huge in. richardson gives him big hispanic creds, something i think will go farther than bidens national security creds.

Yeah, hi. The guy who wins the most states doesn't win. Virginia is about three times more important than NM, which Obama wins in a walk, anyway.

More electoral votes for VA, though. I guess it depends on whether the Latino vote is really in play. If they come out to vote it won't be for McCain.

It's not, and the reality is that Richardson barely moves Latino support anywhere but NM. There have been 400 Mexican folk songs written about his beard, however.

Seriously, who ever votes for a candidate on the basis of who he picked as his running mate? The whole VP sweepstakes is a time filler to get us through August. Truthfully, even announcing the bottom half of the ticket is terrible, terrible theater, leaving us with no reason to watch the convention other than to be a cheerleader. Any candidate who prematurely selects and tells us who his veep is before the conventions should be publically flogged.

If I were a Pubbie I'd be very, very interested in the VP pick this year. You've got a 70something melanoma survivor as the lead?

Yeah, vote for #2.

You know McCain's plan is to announce the day after the Dem convention in hopes of stealing some of Obama's thunder, right?

Because Romney will just inspire the hell out of people. They'll forget Obama even exists and start chanting "Milquetoast! Milquetoast!"

Sorry to be living under a rock, but why is Biden a bad choice for a VP? Is it because he doesn't shore up some shaky states, or that he has some skeletons, or what? From what I've heard elsewhere (which admittedly isn't much), he seems a decent choice based on the fact that he's served in the military and has a ton of foreign service experience. Just wondering what I've missed.

He's going to pick Oprah, since she got him the nomination in the first place.

You heard it here first.

Well, there is the slight problem of him being completely unable to keep his mouth shut about anything, ever. It'd be about three weeks before he uttered something along the lines of "You know, I always wanted to **** a little boy. Not that I ever WOULD, of course..."

It's this one, mostly. He has the political misfortune to be from Delaware, which is small and not in play anyway.

He would appeal to the older, moderate, white voters though.

Not to mention Biden's gaffe of, "Tell you some of Barack Obama's good points? Well, the boy is clean-- seems to shower after pickin' the cotton all day, he's articulate-- says 'ask,' not 'axe,' and he defers to me as the elder statesman like a good darkie should to his betters. Oh wait-- this is off the record, right?"

Some push poll cited in the news today has Biden as the preferred dem VP. This is probably an indicator that whom ever paid for the push poll already knows he is the nominee and is attempting to create more support for him. I theorize it was a push poll, because there is no way the public at large would actually choose Biden as the top choice for VP without a big push.

InTrade has Biden leading with $35 compared to Bayh's $20 and Kaine's $16. So someone must think he's likely.

Edwards is selling for fifty cents!
