McCain Wasn't in a Cone of SilenceFollow

Those who heard the "debate" blinked when McCain said, "Going back to the justices" -- before he was asked any questions about the US Supreme Court justices.

Whispered rumors started to come out that he had been coached ahead of time. It has now been confirmed that McCain was not actually in the building, but was in his motorcade arriving. On a cell phone. With his staff. Who all have Blackberries, and were likely wired into the debate live.

So pretty much, the entire debate with secret questions was a total sham.

“The insinuation from the Obama campaign that John McCain, a former prisoner of war, cheated is outrageous,” Ms. Wallace said.

Because being a prisoner of war confers absolute virtue. A prisoner of war mystically becomes innately noble and honest, strong, generous and wise.

We should require our Presidents and indeed all high-ranking politicians to undergo torture in a prison camp in order to instill these virtues.

This also tells us that McCain has a punctuality problem.

They went through this whole fake coin toss thing, when McCain was late to his own damn debate and Obama was the only one there to actually go on.

You know how when a child lies about something stupid, and the lie is worse than the original act? This is kinda like that.

Lol, you know the Obamunists are getting worried about their boy's chances when they begin nitpicking at the previously lightweight competition. Do you guys have a barely controllable urge to pee down your leg about now?

I liked the part in the article where it sounded like people were suspicious because McCain acquitted himself well, at least superficially.

"Presidential" is not a word I associate with McCain.

While the race has closed somewhat in the last week, Obama's still substantially ahead. What Obama's camp should do is start saying "Here comes the PoW card again, folks!"

Funny as that would be, they have to be somewhat cagey about overtly making fun of McCain and especially his sacred PoW status.

They should absolutely go after his character, his age and particularly his temper.

I disagree. They're being risk adverse, which is fine, they're ahead and it probably wins anyway, but separating current McCain from GI JOE McCain would essentially end his chances.

I dunno. That seems fraught with backfire risk.

Middle Americans are not like you and I, Smash.

These are simple people: ranchers, farmers - the salt of the earth. You know, morons.

I know they aren't. They're easily manipulated suckers. Whoever manipulates them most effectively wins. Deciding not to manipulate them hasn't been shown to be very effective in the last 20 years. There's no shortage of compete nutjobs who were imprisoned with McCain who ******* despise him. There's no reason one of them couldn't find a bag of money and a book publishing deal.

Smiley: laugh

I'm not saying don't manipulate, heavens no. I'm just saying, be careful not to let them see the strings.

Making fun of someone with a military record is just risky, and moreso when he was a PoW, and far moreso when your candidate has no military record.

I can't imagine how you'd make that point without leaving your flank open. You have more experience in these matters than I, but all I see is risk that far outweighs the gain.

ETA: Helps if I'd finish reading your post before responding. Yes, third party accusations would be safer but you'd still have to be careful.

I grew up on an Army base, in a town with a VA hospital. My father, a disabled american vet himself, moved down there for that very reason. One of the big things that Fort Gordon Youth Group had to do on a monthly basis was go to the Blue Goose at the VA and play bingo with the vets.

It was a good experience. These men were all WWII heros, but many of them were reduced to playing bingo for bananas because they'd lost a leg or two and had been in a wheelchair ever since. Many of them had fascinating stories, and we could listen to them for hours.

But as fascinating as these anecdotes were, as heroic as these men were, that's all they had. They'd been in a nursing home ever since. McCain wasn't disabled to the point where he had to stop living his life; he was able to get a pretty second wife, start a new career, and go forward. He needs to stop with the POW/hero broken record and tell us what he's done as a POLITICIAN, not as a veteran.

Oh right, he hasn't done anything as a politician. That's why he's at risk for even losing his home state of Arizona; they're not happy with him at all.

And they say Obama has no substance!

Well Mcain wasn't vacationing in Hawaii catching waves during this Russian crisis.

Or Texas.

I thought it was our God-given right as Americans to be entitled to two weeks vacation a year unlike the socialists in France and their six weeks a year.

Obama is getting killed.

Aww, sadly for, this isn't the case, little buddy. I know you're from the echo chamber where if you claim something for 14 weeks in a row and it happens during 1 then "you saw it coming!!!!" but honestly, McCain closing the gap somewhat during the Olympics is hardly something for you guys to celebrate. I realize that when your party is a burned out failed husk that's the target of jokes even from it's own members that you need to latch on to anything you possibly can, but it's just sort of sad to watch.

Yet, if he had done what McCain did and sent a convoy there, he would be accused of overstepping the authority of the president in office and acting all presumptious and uppity again.

Not when Russia retakes one of it's former satellite countries. Here was a chance to act presidential and obama dropped the ball.

Yeah he told the truth. Big mistake. He should have taken a line along that of the doddering old fool "This aggression cannot stand. Except that it can and we'll no nothing about it because we can't surrender in Iraq. Or Afghanistan. OR Vietnam. What? We did? ****. Ok, maybe we can use the troops freed up from the surrender in the one war I was a part of to send to Georgia. What's that? Oh. All right. Thanks, my friends, I have to to Pakistan? Pardon? Right, right, Flagstaff."
