I once sang the Star Bangled Banner for our local baseball team when I was a teenager. Then I ate a hot dog, watched the game, and reveled in my Americanness. About the only further step I could have taken was to have been wearing a sparkly flag dress.
I've grown up a lot since then, and I haven't been too proud of America ever since some morons elected King Moron the II to the presidency.
I will resume being proud as an American once the idiot son of an ******* has stopped making me ashamed of my government and country.

I thought about it during the worst of the Bush years. I'd do it if I was offered a good enough job overseas. There's a reason I have five friends in Japan right now, one of whom has no intention of leaving until Bush does.
I'm not worried about Obama losing, however. McCain is only going to become more senile as November approaches, and all signs point in Obama's favor unless you're a desperate Republican.

You sound like you aren't quite ready for a democracy. People should question their country and expect more out of their government. We're not supposed to be a bunch of bloated, dull automatons, despite some people's best effort.

The big tent is almost always having a party where you have a diversity of viewpoints and philosophy's representative, like Schwarzenegger being relatively socially liberal, the Christian right, the isolationists, the neo-conservatives and the paleo-conservatives all being part of the same party. It's about coalition politics.
