Michael Phelps just won his 7th gold, by a freaking hair. .01 second.

I'm just in awe.

I imagine this race will air on the West Coast at some time shortly after three in the morning.

Contrary to popular belief, stuff that airs at a certain time on the east cost does not take an additional 3 hours to air on the west cost.

It does when NBC decides to air it that much after. Everything is available at NBC's olympic site for live viewing. However, NBC really hit a home run on thede olympics for Mountain and Pacific viewers. Smiley: oyvey

Watching his lap was amazing. The first 50m it was close but after the turn he just turned on the afterburner and took off Smiley: jawdrop

Would you still feel the same way if they found HGHs? Would you feel shame and disappointment, sharing what he should be feeling as you are willing to do with his pride and accoplishments, or would you cop out and disown him and feel nothing?

Are you saying you think he is doping?

I would be disapointed but being they test for everything these days I'm not concerned. People think Dara Torres has been cheating yet she offered her blood for further testing for the future, when they test for who knows what.

More blame America first? Yep.

Tirth, there is no Phelps bashing allowed in my thread. Smiley: mad

I certainly don't care if he's on drugs. None of the drugs I take can make me do anything nearly that amazing.

In your head they can.

Speaking of astonishing feats, I can't believe no one has mentionned the 100 metres! I've never seen a race like it. Bolt was celebrating 10 metres before the finish line, slowed down, made himself a cup of tea, and still managed to annihilate the WR.

And the guy is barely 21.

I don't know what Jamaicans put in their spliffs, but I want some of that too.

I thought they had to submit to testing after every event? Maybe not.

Sounds like he's actually volunteering for additional testing beyond what the Olympics are doing:

Yeah, that was absurd. Also 10 times as suspicious as Phelps who's clearly a genetic freak and has held WR records for years.

A year ago Bolt was an unknown 200 guy, now suddenly he can run 9.5.

Yeah, I caught that race on Saturday morning.

They interviewed him afterwards and asked him if he could've had a better time. He said that he definitely could.

Saturday I was to a party at shore of South River by the Bay and one of the other guests used to swim with Micheal's older sister. She was talking about his win in the Butterfly by .01 of a sec and went on to talk about his mom.

Micheal's sister during her second year in college, had quit the swim team so she could party, drink and all the other fun things normal around that age. All the other swim mom's aptitude was "You go Girl!"

After learning not to be so intense a Swim mother, Micheal's mom ask his coach not to push him hard, as they did his sister. His answer with the question of how could he stop Micheal?

Around here Phelps is known to live just to swim. When he does retire from swiming I expect his ego will get quite a hit.

That man could retire right now with all of his endorsement deals. After the 04 olympics he made like 5mil a year. After going 8/8, people are speculating that he will make between 30-50mil a year.

Yeah, it's getting a bit annoying. You kinda have to wait 5 years to be sure that the guy was really clean, and that he really won. Delayed victories like that don't make for great TV.

But we'll see, his only 21, so we'll find out sooner or later. If he's clean, we're going to hear a lot more about him. Especially since apparently 200m is his preferred distance. Should be interesting.

Speaking of doping, did anyone else see the part of the women's marathon in which the winner broke a capsule open with her teeth and sniffed the contents during the race? The NBC (American) broadcasters made a point of replaying it and one of them said something about smelling salts...but it was pretty clear they didn't know what to say.

Legal. Not even that uncommon, just not publicized much in the US.

Na, I'm not saying I think he's doping, was just curious if you were a Fairweather Fan. You know... people are so likely to latch on to the winners, yet completley ignore them if they hadn't won.

Yeah, of course he is. Just not in a detectable way. I'm sure he'll pass all of the required tests.
