Frankly I just find his domination of the competition astounding, and I'll set aside my cynicism and allow myself to enjoy the performance guilt-free.

Is there a drug that gives you crazy long ape arms? I think his arms are taller than me.

At any rate, sure, maybe he's clean. There's at least a .002% chance of that. Not that it matters, it's not as if he's beating people who aren't using. The guy's clearly on another level either way.

You know, I'd only ever heard of blood-doping in relation to cycling, and I'd never bothered to check out what it actually does(because let's face it, cycling is pretty gay, even in comparison to swimming), as I assumed the term related more to the method of doping than the effect. But yeah, even if he's a cheat it's a relative cinch that everyone else is, too. That's part of the reason I've never thought of Bonds as anything more vile than an aging, envious ballplayer.

And Nexa, I believe Phelps may have had an extra elbow surgically implanted, but that's not against the rules. As far as I know.

Doping or not he's amazing to watch. I hope he gets his record, he clearly deserves it.

His what now? He's already won more gold medals than anyone in the history of the games. He's thusfar, literally, broken (usually his own) world record in every race.

You seem to have Barry confused with Rafael Palmeiro's moustachio.

Oh so he already got that? I thought he was up for most medals won in one Olympics if he gets gold in every event.

I found this in USA Today this morning:

Quote:
BEIJING — Michael Phelps couldn't see at the moment he became the Olympian with the most gold medals, but he is starting to get a clearer vision of his place in Olympic history.

Phelps' goggles began filling with water when he dove in for the 200-meter butterfly final Wednesday morning (Tuesday night ET). He couldn't see as he approached the last turn and the finish.

"I was just hoping that I was winning," he said.

Edit: Just found this, he's on his way to beating Spitz's record 7 medals in one Olympics:

Quote:
Phelps now has five golds in his Beijing Olympic collection, more than halfway to surpassing Mark Spitz's record seven golds from the 1972 Olympics.

Wednesday's victories also gave Phelps career Olympic golds Nos. 10 and 11, vaulting him past Spitz (1968 and '72), U.S. track and field star Carl Lewis (1984, '88, '92 and '96), Finnish runner Paavo Nurmi (1920, '24 and '28) and Ukrainian gymnast Larysa Latynina (1956, '60 and '64) for the Olympic record.

Rafael Palmeiro's moustachio.

It is exquisite. I brings me back to the days of crouching in a shadowy corner of the living room while my parents watched the Red Sox on TV, tenderly holding my pre-pubescent member with salad tongs wishing Luis Tiant's beautiful, luscious, silky smooth hairlip could leap from the the screen to caress me.

Man, baseball and childhood, is there anything better?

From context of interviews I've heard, it seems that the entire Australian swim team highly respects and admires Phelps' swimming this meet, whether or not he's doped.

Cut to a trailer-home in Bemidji, circa 1987. A young boy sits on Great Grandpa's lap, watching in awe as his new heroes capture the World Series. He imagines Great Grandpa is really Kent Hrbek, and that the frail ancient erection pressing against the seat of his Oshkosh B'gosh overalls is really just Kent's athletic supporter. Dreaming away the hot fluid on the back of his neck as merely tobacco juice.

Okay, this actually happened during the '91 Series, but it's easier to feign ignorance if I pretend it happened when I was seven.

Cycling has has a widely publicized huge doping problem. We're well beyond the days of being able to tell who's using by what they look like.

Yeah, who would honestly look at Floyd Landis and say "That guy is on steroids"

Speaking of female midgets, one of the girls on the China team looks no older than 8. Not even mosquito bites on her chest yet.

Ya. They obviously were cheating but I think EVEYONE knew they were. Probably have to keep in mind that the Chinese govt, in their seclusion and paranoia, figured everyone else was going to cheat too.

Clearly. There's no way those midgets could have beaten our midgets if they were playing fair.

He needs 8 gold medals in one Olympics to beat Mark Spitz's 7 gold medals in '72' (yep I remember that).

The indoor volleyball outfits aren't too shabby. I was digging the Cuba/China match earlier. One good thing about these Olympic games for the Cuban government is not having to worry about their athletes defecting.

That maybe. But I didn't SEE any needles hanging out anyones butts. I did SEE some really youngs girls on the China team. For respect for the people that don't dope up I won't agree to a blanket statement like "everyone does it".

I find this sort of talk deplorable. Grown women wearing kneesocks and knee pads? Ludicrous.
