Alcohol vs Tobacco vs MarijuanaFollow

Less productive proletariat.

Then why not make alcohol illegal?

And I don't think smoking weed automatically makes you lazy. I smoke like 2-3 blunts a day and I'm the best employee at my job; I won employee of the month 3 months in a row.

If you're gonna be lazy/unproductive, you're gonna be that way with or without weed.

The fact that your job has "employee of the month" leads one to believe that that job is not exactly rocket science.

Note: I don't know where you live, but here in the US, the only places with "Employee of the Month" are fast food services.

Illegal alcohol may contain MeOH. That's more damaging than whatever you usually find in street heroin/methamphetamine.

Nah, it absolutely makes you less productive.

Then why not make alcohol illegal?

Tried and failed.

No no... not "making it illegally"

No no... not "making it illegally"

1. Make alcohol illegal
2. Alcoholics want more alcohol
3. They buy illegally made alcohol
4. Alcoholics get damaged

Well, is that actually bad?

I'm a Team Supervisor for a large student loan company. Basically, I make sure that all data entry/validation/verification processes for applications are properly coordinated and carried out; not rocket science, but far from fast food.

However, even if I did work at a fast food chain, my point is still valid.

But Smash, if a less productive worker is a reason for not legalizing marijuana, shouldn't we start making recreational activities illegal that make you less productive in the workplace....like MMORPGS?

Not really, cause it wouldn't be hard to beat out Billy and his skate boarding buddies at Taco Bell who only have a job cause his parents are forcing him to. Who always gives his buddies free tacos.

I knew the kids that worked at Taco Bell in highschool... they were "geniuses". Anyone with an ounce of focus would be able to work harder than them.

Telemarketer, gotchya. Can you tell them to stop calling looking for my brother? He doesn't owe you guys any money, his college just sold you all his name and info cause they needed money.

Nah, you have to work to pay for them. It's all production and consumption. You want a workforce that is not only productive, but also easily manipulated into consuming relatively useless things. MMORPGS are ideal. They keep workers working, docile, and involved in rich fantasy lives building all important apathy regarding their actual lives.

That sounds pretty much like pot. It's actually more expensive than playing MMORPGs, in the long run.

Not if it's legal. If it's legal it's like $50 a pound.

Isn't that, like, cheaper than normal?

Holland Coffee Shop Prices linkie

Note that Dutch weed is far more potent than the American kind.

As far as I know, the prices shown there are not much more, if any, than you pay illegally.

Huh Telemarketer?...where do you get that from? I don't have any contact with loan applicants at all in my job. My job is more along the lines of an office manager.

Also, my whole point is that not all people who smoke weed are lazy do-nothings who skip work all the time, or just do the bare minimum at their job, etc.

Compare the price of coffee when:
a) grown in your back yard
b) purchased in a 2-pound can in a grocery store
c) purchased in a coffee shop

Edit: Oh, you were agreeing that it would be cheap. But you missed that Smash's point was that it would be cheap.

What I see is the same price as now, in the illegal state. Okay, the low-quality US weed goes for the same price, as well, so it'd probably be cheaper, yes, but quite a few people would still spend 100 bucks/month or more on it, and that is still far more expensive than any MMO, as far as I know.

Strangely, it is now illegal to smoke tobacco in a coffee shop in Holland, but you can still smoke marijuana legally.

Are you basing on the coffee shop prices, though? I'd think you could obtain it for a lot cheaper than boutique prices.

Of course I could if I'd care enough. I also could without caring enough, but the quality would be far lower.

Hell, I could also grow it myself, be extremely stoned all day and save a whole lot of money!

I am assuming that I don't spend all my time looking for the bestest, cheapest weed. Just that I spend about the same amount of time as I would if we could buy it at stores here.

Oh, whatever, I don't really care enough to spend energy on finding any kind of weed, really. I just know that it's probably the only illegal drug that's not cheaper here than in mostly any other part of the country. So yes, the prices are usually equal to those on the page around here.

Legalize it, tax the hell out of it, use it to pay for the next war in Afghanistan.

It's true. I was in Amsterdam for a week-end a months ago or so, and you can't smoke a joint made of weed and tobacco in the coffee shop. You can smoke a joint of pure weed, no problem. Or you can buy a tobacco-substitute that tastes kinda funny and burns really slowly, and mix that with your weed. But it tastes like sh*t.

We were still trying to discreetly smuggle a little tobacco into our joints. It's a weird feeling. "Dude, the waiter is coming, hide the tobacco!!"

Also, I think all drugs should eventually be legalised. Relatively harmless drugs should be sold in coffee shops or smart shops, while the harder stuff (heroin, cocaine, etc...) should be given by your doctor if you have an addiction.

I know it won't happen for a while, it's impossible to sell politically, but it makes a lot of sense.
