TORONTO (AP) -- Explosions at a propane facility forced thousands of people in Toronto to evacuate early Sunday, and witnesses described the sky lighting up in the glow of an enormous fireball before turning black with billowing smoke.

Didn't see any other threads about it, so I figured I'd post it. Happened around 3:30-4:30 a.m. Toronto time (EST?)

And here's a video of the main explosion: (Sorta NSFW - language)

Edit: Almost forgot the NY Times link.

I think that's the second ever vid I've seen of a real life shock-wave. The first one was on a Mythbusters episode.

I had a flashback while viewing the video.

When I was 14 years old, a fuel container caught fire at the closest power station (sabotage was suspected but never proven). We saw it from our bedroom window, and were trying to guess what caused that heavy black smoke. I called my dad over to see it, and suddenly a huge ball of fire flared up.

We saw the shock wave as an invisible wall "cleansing" the air around the fire. Then something hit us and pushed us back 2 meters, and a few seconds later the biggest blast I have ever heard almost deafened us for the rest of that day.

I heard many shells, bombs, trapped cars, land mines and other explosives close up (a shell once hit that same bedroom wall, luckily it wasn't in the middle of it or my brother and I would have died, it hit the side and took a chunk out of the building), but that fuel explosion was definitely the loudest I've ever experienced.

Yes we do, we just have to wet our sand hands so that the sand skin flakes don't clog up the keyboard.

Was the old Asylum more scary, or less scary, than Lebanon?

I never felt that my country was scary. You grow up in a certain environment, you get used to unbelievable things.

I am also used to all the misconceptions about Lebanon. I was once chatting to an American on mIRC, and he told me that he had to go pick up his new car, and then he asked me "Do you know what a car is, or are you still using camels in Lebanon?"

I have no idea how he managed to miss the fact that I was accessing the internet to talk to him Smiley: oyvey

As for the Asylum... Why do you call it scary? I used to lurk a lot because frankly you people have interesting discussions about politics, moral issues, etc... And I find them more "human" than the news or scholarly works on the subject. I rarely find a "fuck you" counter argument on the regular sites Smiley: laugh

It's the kinder, gentler Asylum now. Mostly because they killed and ate all challengers, so there is not enough sheep left to harrass.

I'd actually be really interested to hear your views on America's support for Israel and how that affects relations in the Middle East, and the hypocrisy of it (if you see it that way of course..I do, but I really want to hear from someone who..you know...has actually lived through it)
