We lost an SPCA puppy to this many years ago. We were young and nieve and believed the Vet when she said the puppy was healthy. Two weeks and lots of money later, Buckley passed away overnight at the vet. We visited her as much as possible but she died, alone. Thus began my streak of rescuing as many dogs as possible. We are at 4 presently and thats about our limit.

Who's got it?

Or, is this just a generalized statement that parvo is bad?

7 days later, our puppy finally pulls through. $700 in IV's and shots, lots of carpet cleaner, and no sleep. Worse yet, my wife and I had to give him the IV's ourselves.

I highly recommend avoiding the experience, have your puppy vaccinated, keep them away from anything everything, and take them to the vet the second you notice any lethargy, vomitting, or bloody stool.

Thank god we pulled through that, it was like watching your child slowly die and not being able fix it.

I'm glad your pup pulled through it Neph. I went through the same experience with the Rottie I had in college. 4 sleepless nights and instead of IV's, I had injections to do myself. It was a horrible experience. But like yours, my pup pulled through and was the most loyal doggie until the day he crossed the rainbow bridge. Man, I miss that dog.

Woot! Ding! Congrats!

Puppies 1 Parvo 0

Now go take the little one to the local dog park, pick up a few ticks, and pay the vet lots of money to get rid of the lyme disease he picks up.

Pictures of the puppy please!

I read the title as "Parve" at first and couldn't figure out what on earth your problem was with Kosher foods. At any rate, I'm happy to hear he pulled through Neph!

Yeah, there's nothing worse than watching a poor animal suffer because you know that they probably don't understand what's going on and they just seem so helpless.

I just don't understand how some people can be cruel to animals. How can someone look at a cat or a dog and say "hey you know what will be fun...terrorizing it" I'll flip through the channels and see Animal Cops is on and I can't even watch that ****. So many of those people need a hot branding iron to the ******* and/or labia. I mean, taking advantage of a helpless animal is sick. Whoever said that they made it their mission to help as many dogs as possible...GOOD FOR YOU! :)

Ok, for those of you who plan to purchase a puppy in the future, DO NOT bring them anywhere outside except in a yard where no other dogs have been until they have received ALL of their vaccinations. Parvo is a common disease that is most often lethal, but if beaten can leave your pet debilitated for life. Fire hydrants, grass near sidewalks, bushes, trees, and other older dogs are places/things where the parvo virus is highly likely to be found.

If you live in an apartment complex or in a home where previous owners had a pet, placing the pup on the ground dramatically increases the dog's chances of infection. Better to just accept the fact you'll have to housebreak them on newspaper until the final series of shots is finished than to pay boo-coo bucks for a dog that is either dead or has long term injuries.

Depends on the pet, but yeah.

Any reputable seller of a dog should have included all the shots (DHLP series is standard). The fault here is whomever sold you that puppy IMO. A seller can't assume that everyone buying a dog knows everything. It's their responsibility to make sure that all the shots are in place and to provide the buyer with whatever documentation and information they'll need to raise a happy healthy dog.
