Trip to Stokesay Castle
If you're into medieval architecture, it's a cool place. If not, don't bother.
I was at Stokesay in the first week of July!
I grew up in Shrewsbury, just up the road, and I'd taken 'er indoors' and the boy to see it for the first time. We wandered the cobbled streets and gawked at the leaning over half timbered buildings and fed the ducks on the Severn.
The best bit tho was the trip to Stokesay (where a good friend of mine is buried) followed by a pub lunch of heroic proportions, and then off to
Acton Scott working farm where the boy got to sit on a destrier and milk a cow and had a horseshoe made for him by the very friendly farrier.
Shropshire on a sunny afternoon in the height of summer is 'England' at its best. It made me feel like and englishman again for a few hours,
thanx nobby!
