My son's playing football this year. They're so funny at 5-6, they just look like helmets with legs for the most part.

That's so cute! I can't wait till Thom starts playing sports, but mommy doesn't like football. She thinks he'll get hurt.

Do they really get hurt in the 5-6 year old games? Older, sure, but I guess I'd let him try everything and find what he likes.

Yoss, they get fairly rough at this age. They're being taught how to tackle the right way, how to block, etc. My son's been knocking them down and he's been knocked down. But so far, no one's been hurt. And my son LOVES it. I mean, he's got permission to act like a wild man now!

Plus, children are practically indestructible at that age. Seeing kids that age fall down in a way that would scrape the hell or result in breaks for us shows them bouncing back up with a sill grin on their face.

Well they don't fall as far and their bone diameter is, say, greater then half what a grown up has but their weight is ten times less.
