Way to rack up brownie points, guys. Smiley: laugh

Er, no pun intended.

Quote:
A newspaper is asking John McCain's campaign why a black reporter assigned to cover a rally was singled out by security and told to leave a backstage area.

Stephen Price, a reporter for the Tallahassee Democrat, was among four Florida capital press corps reporters behind the scenes at a Panama City rally Friday when a Secret Service agent approached and asked if he was part of the national media traveling with McCain. Price said no, and the agent told him he had to leave. Price said he then pointed out that there were other state reporters in the same area, but was still told to leave. The other reporters were white.

A Panama City police office quickly approached with his hand on his holster and asked what the problem was, Price said. At the same time Palm Beach Post reporter Dara Kam came to Price's defense and was told she also had to leave, Price said.

The other two reporters, Alex Leary of the St. Petersburg Times and Marc Caputo of The Miami Herald, weren't removed.

The woman must not be blonde. If she's blonde McCain will throw a fit.

Edited to add: And yes, I give a **** what you and some wretchedly designed web site have to say. FUCk off.

To be fair, it was the secret service who singled the guy out. Not sure why they're demanding that the McCain camp explain this.

I'd also be curious to know how often reporters get booted out of sections they're not supposed to be in at events like this. Which is more likely? That he was singled out because he was black? Or someone decided to make a big deal out of him getting singled out because he was black?

I suspect the latter...

Probably a combination, to be honest. He stood out in the crowd because of his color, but when he pointed out that others were not part of the inner circle they should have been ousted as well.

In related news, Gwen Ifill is moderating the VP debate. Maybe she can ask [Enter McCain Veep] why he hates the blacks.

Which one is Britt Hume moderating? What's that? Oh, Chris Wallace? I see. Shepherd Smith? No?

I smell a conspiracy!! As I peer into my crystal ball, I see Gbaji posting about McCain's dismal debate performance insisting Obama got all the easy questions, and that the whole thing was rigged, because everyone knows Obama is terrible off the cuff.

Gee, were the half dozen quotes by people saying "The only reason I can think of that he was booted is because he's black" your first clue Smash?

Do people really leap to racism as the first reason things happen? Maybe he was being too pushy? Maybe he was standing in someone's way and someone complained (like someone who was supposed to be in that section)? Maybe he just happened to be closest to the secret service guy when he went to check to make sure that the reporters were in the right section?

I can think of a dozen different reasons he might have been removed that don't have anything to do with his skin color, yet the article managed to find only people who assumed it must have been his race. Nah. No race card being played here...

I also love how so many of the articles about this make a big point that he was the only black reporter at the event, as though that's all about the McCain camp and not actually about the various news outlets choice...

But there's no race card being played here. Lol!

I think it's less that and more if you were a black dude, who's plane would you rather be on?

You know there isn't going to be any Ghostface Killah played on the Straitguy Express.

I don't think anyone here really thinks race was involved. I'm sure the guy looked shifty or nervous or one of 1000 things SS agents are trained to notice and when challenged wasn't properly credentialed so was shown the door. It's just funny because the McCain campaign has so cynically proclaimed "wahhh! We're the victims!! He says we hate blacks, wahhhhhh!!!"

Hey, it's worth a shot, I guess, you guys definitely have no shot on the issues. Scaring enough white folks that Obama is a militant black guy is likely your only hope.

Maybe not here as in "in this forum", but it's pretty obvious that this is what those writing the story want people to believe:

Quote:
Price said he could think of no other reason why he was approached other than his race.

Quote:
But he added that he keeps going over the facts and he hasn't found a reason except that Price is black.

Quote:
"I think it was about security and security acting overzealous and security singling out a black reporter to be removed," Gabordi said.

Three quotes just in the linked article Smash. You think that's not the objective here? There is no story without the assumption that he was booted because he was black. You know it. I know it. Of course the race card is being played here.

Cynical? They *are* making that accusation Smash. There is no reason to write that story unless your objective is to accuse the McCain camp of racism. When your story contains three statements directly claiming that the reporter was booted because he was black and four statements demanding an apology from the McCain camp (or observing that one hasn't been offered), I don't think it's a stretch to say that the story represents a direct accusation against McCain and his staff. Not responding would leave the public with the belief that it must be true and you know it.

What's really funny is your insistence that McCain should not be allowed to point out such groundless accusations are leveled against him. How about we just accept that this reporter and his boss were caught trying to play a really weak race card on McCain and move on, shall we?

That's all you have though, isn't it? Try desperately to convince people that the only reason people support McCain is because they are racist. Lol... I suppose you'd call it whining for someone to point that out though. ;)

Sensationalism in a news story? Ludicrous. How can a man with your integrity who scrupulously relies on only unbiased sources allow such a thing to stand? Fight that good fight, Capitan.

I don't think that. I do think the Republican Party is the party of racism. I think that point's fairly inarguable. No one from Earth First is voting for McCain after blowing up animal researchers homes and no one from Aryan Nations is voting for Obama, are they? You tell me, though, as a racist, who are you voting for?

But pointing out that the news story is sensationalized is wrong though... Got it! ;)

Quote:

Ah yes. Ending slavery. Fighting Jim Crow laws in the south. Clearly racist...

But the party that created Jim Crow and segregation, and then later race based hiring quotas, and spends all its time identifying people by their skin color, that parties not about racism. I guess when your operating definition of racism is itself racist you'll buy that line.

Quote:

I think you're dead wrong. As usual.

What I can tell you is that probably 10x more people will be voting for Obama because he's black than voting McCain because he isn't. Where's the racism again? Who keeps bring up race Smash? Not McCain. Not his staff. Obama does. Repeatedly.

Sure they do! And every six year old can make that prediction. So it was pretty damn stupid of the SS to kick him out like that, just following a standard procedure.

McCain campaign guys should make sure that kind of stuff doesnt happen bc its not handy in election time. And yes they have that control since they control who can be there or not.
Now a McCain rally looks like a klan meeting.

Its not handy in the first place to kick out ANY reporter during any rally in this election time, then said reporter is likely to write a biased article.
They should have organized their security better and not leave them on standard saturday night bouncer mode.
Like give them instructions other then "just kick em out on sight". For campaign people they dont have much sense for politics or how to win votes. :S

Would you vote for an idiot surrounded by idiots? No? Vote otherguy! ;)
