Better dead list.Follow

Having recently seen Wanted, and reread Stranger in a Strange Land for the 10th time or so, I got to thinking: "Morals aside, which person's death would improve the living conditions on Earth?"

Which people do you think would make a noticeable difference, for the better, if they were suddenly pushing up daisies?

I know most of you know a lot more about global politics than I do, so I'll start with a no-brainer to take it off the table:
- Osama Bin Laden

Just an honest question: You really think Bin Laden's death would improve the living condition on earth?

Well, I didn't really want to make a discussion out of it, just gather up a few names for... erm... scientific and totally innocent research.

Bin Laden's death, yeah, I believe it will improve living conditions. He is at the heart of a terrorist organization and is charismatic and influential enough to cause a lot of chaos if he suddenly died. The power struggle and the loss of some of the supporters should buy the rest of the world some relief.

I don't think he's already dead, since there is no physical evidence of that, Sammy.

As for Saddam, well, I think his death was rather pointless in the grand scheme of things. It might have saved of few of his victims, it might have killed a few more innocent bystanders, and it surely killed off many more foreign soldiers than leaving him alone would have, but globally? Not much has changed.

No idea what Wanted is but, I love RAH's books, and Stranger was my favorite book in my 20s, however you can't base your life on the guy's morals. If you do you will be fucking your mom, having threesomes with your sister, who was once your brother, spewing silly words like 'grok' and 'TANSTAAFL' (I really remembered that, honest!) and talking nonsense about meritocracys, individualism and self-determination.

Besides RAH would never advocate running out and wasting some guy just 'cus (even if the 'cus was based on a horrendous crime). He would ask if you thought it was a good idea and force you to consider the why and the all the consequences of the act.

You wanna start fucking 'leveling' you understand how fucking far that goes.

A movie about assassins, starring Angelina Jolie, Morgan Freeman and James McAvoy.

I love his books too, and I love the TANSTAAFL mentality, which I thought fitted the Lunar colonies perfectly.
Also, I don't think those are RAH's morals at all, I think they are the tool that he tried to use to shake up some of the preconceptions and taboos of his time. The shock value of his writings sold more books than the literary content and yet he's still my favorite author.
But I'm not talking about morals, I said "morals aside" in my first post.

True, but I took Micheal's fatalistic (and innocent, to a point) viewpoint when I mentioned SiaSL here, not Jubal's level-headed one. The scene I'm talking about is the one when they tried to burn Mike out, and then imprison him, and he escaped taking out of existence most of the city's corrupt individuals.

What would you recommend we do with approximately 5 billion dead bodies?

Dump them into the oceans, that should boost crab and lobster populations. Heck, most fish really. Poetic justice some would say.

The people I would put on such a list undoubtedly have their own list (and, unlike me, the power to make theirs shorter). But hey, I second Ronald McDonald!

There is not an individual that can make or break living conditions on this planet for all people. Even Osama Bin Laden may very well be making living conditions better for some. And personally I don't believe in the whole 'god' thing.

Morals aside? If not for morals what makes us a social species?

I thought Stranger in a Strange Land a dumb book, as is this question.

I vote it thrown off the island.

You're a fucking mindless simpleton. What you believe matters to no one and can be deduced from watching the most recent episode of TRL.

By the way, how is Belgium coming along? Have you guys split up yet? How long until Brussels is the 3rd biggest city in France?

Short version: we're all pretty much screwed here.

In a recent poll, about 50% of the Walloons said they wouldn't mind if they joined up with France after the break-up with Flanders.

There's not really much support in Flanders to join with the Netherlands though.

There is no agreement for the federal reforms between the Flemish and the Walloons, there never will be any decent agreement either, neither side is willing to compromise whatsoever. It's been over one year now, there's a sort of temporary government to deal with running affairs and all the current crap with the economic crisis. (inflation just under 6% now)

Elections next year, should be fun.

France will never have Brussels though, we'll burn it down before that happens Smiley: grin
