Tom Cruise has acted well in at least several of his movies. There was a sentiment going around that his performance was superior to Dustin Hoffman's in Rainman; that playing a crazy is much easier than playing the straight man.

Yeah, I'd disagree. Though if the roles had been reversed, Cruise would have had the easier job, as it would have been less of a stretch for him.

While i wouldn't class him as a great actor, I can only think of one of his films i don't like. Not saysing they're great film just that i find them enjoyable.

Yeah, obviously I was kidding, because he is a little nuts.
But it would be very, very hard to play an autistic person well. You can't just "act crazy"; there are very specific behaviors and reactions that you'd expect, and Hoffman nailed it.
