" The first and greatest threat from court decisions in California and Massachusetts, giving legal recognition to "gay marriage," is that it marks the end of democracy in America."

"If America becomes a place where our children are taken from us by law and forced to attend schools where they are taught that cohabitation is as good as marriage, that motherhood doesn't require a husband or father, and that homosexuality is as valid a choice as heterosexuality for their future lives, then why in the world should married people continue to accept the authority of such a government?

What these dictator-judges do not seem to understand is that their authority extends only as far as people choose to obey them.

How long before married people answer the dictators thus: Regardless of law, marriage has only one definition, and any government that attempts to change it is my mortal enemy. I will act to destroy that government and bring it down, so it can be replaced with a government that will respect and support marriage, and help me raise my children in a society where they will expect to marry in their turn.

Biological imperatives trump laws. American government cannot fight against marriage and hope to endure. If the Constitution is defined in such a way as to destroy the privileged position of marriage, it is that insane Constitution, not marriage, that will die."

Looks like I won't be reading any more of HIS books...

Why? They're still excellent books. I doubt you even know the viewpoints of most of the authors whose books you read.

His books being excellent is debateable. Although I may not know the viewpoints of most of the authors I read, he's now giving me the option of not supporting his work.

You can read them without buying them. Don't worry, I won't tell.

What a moron.

I loved his stuff about Ender and Bean growing up and in battle school and what-not (Enders Game, Enders Shadow). But always did find some of his more sociological science-fiction (Hive and the Hedgemon, Speaker for the Dead) to be a little off-kilter.

They were definitely stranger. They weren't as much fun, but I really enjoyed exploring some of the ideas of how to understand someone that you have little to no common ground with.

The irony is that the same people who'd be impressed by Card saying this would probably hold me in contempt if I said that I was voting Obama because Scarlett Johansson says I should.

Oh, and the books after Ender's Game pretty much sucked.

All theory, of course, as he's just demonstrated.

If i don't care about Ron Hubbards views when reading his books what makes you think i'm going to change that for Card?

You're English. That's the only type of comedy you know. That and Benny Hill.

Pretty much.

Card calling for the end of the world doesn't suprise me. The idea is prevelant in several of his books: he has always had a hard on for the idea of the rest of the world going to **** and Mormon society breaking away and creating it's own land, a la Isreal.

It sucks because I have Ender's Shadow sitting on my bookshelf and knowing the author's political stances doesn't make me want to read it. Then again Ender's Game got ******* weird at the end.

The first thing which springs to mind when reading the Card quote is that the second amendment was written for him.

Get those folks right out of the gene pool. Not that the founders were thinking along those lines, but being enlightenment thinkers, I'm sure they would approve.

The Mormon's picked Utah. I say let them secede. Two less loonies in the senate.

I liked the alvin maker series. Little to heavy on religious aspects towards the last books, however...

It won't affect my reading habits.

He can write something as good as Songmaster regardless of his personal views on the matter. This makes him a better writer than most people writing about subjects they agree with.

I've know for years that Card was a member of the LDS church. His statement is in keeping with their current teachings. I always read his books with the understanding that his religious belief affected his subject matter but always felt he was/is a very good writer. I do love the ALVIN MAKER series as well as all the books in the Enderverse. YEP all of them.
