The jalapenos did it.

The Tomatoe industry lost an estimated $250mil in sales because of the erroneous FDA advisory that claimed they were the cause of a salmonella out-break.

Do you heed the warnings of the FDA?

Is it acceptable for the FDA to put out advisories that are, perhaps, not yet 100% verified, or would they be irresponisible to NOT issue advisories?

I half heartedly listen to the FDA warnings. If I do refrain from purchasing something due to a warning, and it is later found not-guilty, I make up for it. For example, tonight, I will purchase five pounds of tomatoes and eat nothing else for three days, rocking back and forth crying while I apologize for ever having doubted them.

I'm unclear on how one cooks a salad. We're not talking chicken here.

I hadn't even heard about the FDA advisory on tomatoes until like two days ago. I've been packing a tomato in my lunch every day(hawt damn I love those things with a bit of salt on them). I also eat Jalapenos straight from the bag from time to time(usually 2-3 times a week). I didn't get sick.

I don't know if I just got lucky or not but I'm inclined to think that this is another incident concerning today's bubble-wrapped society where everything that -might- make you sick or injured is a national grade threat to the people.

I was contemplating going into a rant about bubble-wrapped children and overly-controlled environments causing more problems than it did good but it's too early in the day to make myself angry at the world.

No, your food doesnt contain e.coli or salmonella because it's undercooked. It containes the bacteria because of improper food handling. Cooking it merely kills the evil little diseases caused by mass manufacturing of our foodstuffs.

duh

So what you're saying is: Cooking it properly and you won't get food poisoning. Right?

Depends on what you call proper cooking.

I find a properly cooked burger to be medium/medium rarish (pink in the centers).

So long as the the Temp in the center of your meat is above 60C for 5 minutes and make sure it isn't left to fall below 40C before serving you're fine.

So if you like it pink, cook it slowly and switch up to brown oncew it's cooked.

I adore tomatoes. I eat those on just about a daily basis. Hubby eats jalapenos on a daily basis.

I heard about the FDA advisory, only because certain hamburger joints I frequent WEREN'T PUTTING TOMATOES IN THEIR BURGERS which ignored the **** out of me. And with the jalapeno thing going on now, it's irking my husband when he goes to get Mexican.

But the most disturbing thing I find in this thread is that Nads doesn't drink bloody Mary's.

IMO, the only fruit juice you should put with vodka is OJ. And even then, you should still add some peach schnapps.

Vodka and I have been apart for far too long. Damn you red wine and your health benefits! /shakes fist

Now, now. Red wine doesn't mean to stand in your way, and would be okay with a vodka threesome.

Red wine is good, giving and game.

Interesting, I used to like screwdrivers, but now OJ is probably the only juice I dislike with vodka.

A good glass of Pinot Noir is my downfall. I'm such a lightweight though. Half a glass and I start getting giggly.

I prefer a Shiraz to a Pinot Noir, but I enjoy them both.
