The GOP, Pelosi and "San Francisco Values"Follow

Here, Pelosi's criticism of the use of San Francisco as a liberal bogeyman is full of so much win. I hope this election isn't a repeat of 2004, where we talked about nebulous "values" rather than the war and the economy. They talk about OBAMA being vague--Jesus.:

Quote:
"San Francisco values to me means that every child in our city has health insurance until they are 25 years old. San Francisco values say we don't have a minimum wage, we have a living wage. In San Francisco we respect the dignity and worth of every person and respect is the order of the day there. Issues like protecting the environment aren't issues for us -- they are values and ethics.

"I think they highlight them because they are the forces that are fighting health insurance for our children... they are the forces that are fighting increases in the minimum wage. So when they sort of use their winks and nods about San Francisco values, they are talking about the fact that we respect our gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender community. But what they are really afraid of is economic justice.

"Someone showed me a letter they sent out the other day -- this is how pathetic they are -- on the cover in bold black pen, like a quarter of an inch thick, across the page of this fundraising letter, it said 'Nancy Pelosi Wants You To Die.' It looks just like a letter. Imagine if you were to get something like that in your home. It is very threatening. They are bankrupt. The Republicans are bankrupt. They have no ideas about the future, they are agents for the status quo, thank god there are a few of them that vote with us on the issues."

Not impressive. The reality is that San Fransisco is a crushingly terrible example to extrapolate to the nation as a whole. The city with the highest per capita income in the country and the highest home values generates enough revenue to provide health care to 11% of it's citizens? Wow.

But I don't think that is exactly her point. I think her point is that people bemoan San Francisco values as being an example of Godlessness and decadence, a reflection of liberal values, whereas the importance values are things like economic justice. Don't be so literal and such a buzzkill. Smiley: mad

There should be a filter preventing anyone from ever using a huffington post as a source.

Especially by twats like you.

It wasn't a source for an argument, it was a quote.

Would it help to find the quote as pasted on another website?

...not only that, but it was a quote that the OP was questioning the credibility of.

Still, I propose that anytime a huffington link is clicked the clicker is mysteriously transported into the nebulous realm of teh Totemesque

I know. That isn't all that obscure, particularly since I posted the link from the source.

Oh wait, this:

isn't incorrect, btw. They were quoting Pelosi, they weren't saying that they agreed or disagreed. Your "copying the idea of" idea was weirdly worded.

It must not occure to her (or most liberals) how this country got to where it is in the first place.

That place being massively diminished from where it was eight years ago? No, trust me, it occurs to us. It occurs to us when we decide not to visit Europe because our money buys 1/5th of what it did eight years ago. It occurs to us when our Medical Insurance premiums start to approach 30% of our salary that it's a funny country where a $1500 commercial can convince 500 million people they're better off going broke trying to pay for health care. When we read stories about another thousand dead or maimed kids in Iraq, it occurs to us that, perhaps, it's a better idea to let the military plan the wars instead of the tiny di[/i][/i]cked frat boys. When the value of our 401K's is less than it was eight years ago, yet everything costs more, it occurs to us.

You'd have to be functionally retarded for it not to occur to one how we got to where we are today. You know how that is, though, huh?

Yes, he's directly responsible for it. If you can't see how, you're an idiot, which, yes, I suppose is laugh worthy. "huh huh huh heh, I'll look sophisticated if I say Presidents don't effect policy, huhuh huhuh."

Causal oversimplification anyone?

Effect somewhat, directly responsible, no.

Casual and causal are kinda different.

Look at how the speculators responded to W saying he was going to lift his dads offshore drilling ban

That would be not at all. Again, something happening before something doesn't mean it caused something. Bush lifting a ban on offshore drilling didn't cause the earthquake toady.
