From a party that loves to raise OUR taxes

Republicans raise *your* taxes, you fucking simpleton. Democrats want to raise wealthy people's taxes. Not yours. In fact, your taxes will be lower with Democrats in power. I realize you can't understand that because you're rock fucking stupid, but it's the case.

You're allowed to say this as soon as there's a Republican in office that doesn't raise taxes OR overspend tax income.

You're a complete moron. If the wealthy are taxed more the impact is felt by everyone.

Yeah it is. The wealthy have slightly less money, the middle class has more money, the poor have more opportunity to become middle class.

Amazing you actually think taxing the wealthy helps the lower classes when in fact what it does is cost them their jobs.

Never been shown to be the case, ever, in history. The greatest job losses occur when taxes on the wealth are the lowest.

But hey at least they won't be paying more taxes.

They'll be paying less, earning more, and the economy overall will perform better.

You're probably in favor of the capital gains tax as well.

I'd discuss this with you, but you don't understand how this taxation currently works. Look it up and we can talk about it.

Democrates are now talking about RAISING federal gas taxes by 8 cents a gallon. They also want to tax corperations more which is passed down to customers, so you end up paying those too. This windfall tax on the oil companies they keep trying to get through the congress will be paid for by who? YOU.

It's called a "Progressive tax system". Wealthier people are taxed more, poorer people are taxed lass. Middle class taxed middling. The overall amount of goods and services that the rich have to cut back on are more than compensated for by the increase in goods and services that the poor start consuming with their extra money, because, after all, there are a ****-ton more of them.

So everyone keeps their jobs, they are just selling to the middle class and the previously poorer, instead of a wealthy few.

That's a simplification, but it's a legitimate simplification.

Oil companies.

You see, sucker, for oil companies to pass on a tax on profits to customers, they'd have to be able to make more profits by doing so. If they could make more profits by doing so, they'd be doing it now. See, that's corporations do, maximize profits. They don't have a magical ability to just generate more profits if they're taxed at a higher rate.

Fuck you're slow, sucker.

Yup, the USA debt to the world is staggering and frightening. Sooner or later you have to pay it down. It's going to hurt badly, no matter which way it is done. Americans are going to be paying more for goods one way or another, until it's gotten rid of. The longer it's put off, the worse the pain will be. Australia is in the same boat, just on a smaller scale to go with our smaller population.

Hi. What you've linked is the unemployment rate, which is only vaguely related to the number of jobs, but let's play along.

Where is the lowest rate of unemployment in the numbers you've linked?

1969. What was the highest marginal tax rate on those who made the most income in 1969? 77%.

Where's the highest rate of unemployment? 1982. What happened in 1982? Tax cuts on the highest marginal rate bringing it down to 50%.

When did the Bush tax cuts occur? 2001. Unemployment before the tax cuts, 3.9. Now? 5.5.

Can you see how "the numbers" don't work for you, sucker? Just kidding, I'm sure you can't.

I've only seen "OMG they're secretly raising taxes!" stories but the jist is supposedly that there's a gas tax increase being discussed. The rationale is that people are buying less gas these days and there's a large expected shortfall in the infrastructure repair budget which is funded largely by the gas tax.

This has been the biggest problem with McCain's insistance for a "Gas tax holiday" -- for a few pennies saved at the pump, we all suffer from a large infrastructure debt. So far, McCain hasn't had a good answer on how we'll keep the road repair kitty rich while suspending the taxes that feed it.

On the bright side, I see that there's been a fall in the price of crude oil barrels, since demand for petroleum products in the USA has gone down.

That doesn't cost money. Services and infrastructure just appear magically, taxes only go towards buying welfare mothers Cadillacs. Stoopid.

At any rate, no one's going to raise the federal gas tax. The Party will wait at least two years before committing political suicide, and they'll likely find a far more creative way of doing so if history's any judge.

The unemploment rate is the measure.

Of what? It's not the measure of the number of jobs, you understand that, right?

Wait, what am I saying, of course you don't understand what the unemployment rate is. Sorry, I was responding as if it were to someone not functionally retarded. I'll try to remember not to do that in the future.

Not to hammer on the point, but this is what bothers me about Pubbies. Lower taxes! But don't lower spending. 'Cause that would be unpopular.

Besides, those bridges almost always fall apart on someone else's watch.

You're missing the selling point. The GOP theory is that cutting taxes will result in *increased* government revenue. That's why it's ok to go into massive crushing debt while you're waiting for the increased revenue because you'll be able to pay it off with all the money you'll be bringing in from the booming economy. That this never once has actually worked out that way isn't important, apparently. Just so long as the suckers buy it and more wealth moves to the wealthiest GOP stakeholders, that's the important part. The reality is that it's just a simple wealth transfer mechanism from the middle class to the wealthy.

I don't know if you've got the same issue going on down there as I've seen up here, but prior to people suddenly reducing their driving, there should have been windfalls due to the raised price of gas, yet the roads don't appear to be in any better shape.

The federal gas tax is flat. Ten cents a gallon or somesuch. In PerfectAwesome World, the decrease in gas consumption would come to an equal decrease in roadwear but we all aren't that stupid. I assume better mileage standards hurt the equation as well since you consume more road wear per dime of tax.
