Anyone watched this yet? I think it's awesome. It's like The Wire meets Band of Brothers. Granted, it has only been the first episode, but it seems like it's setting up for a great series.
One of the rare shows I will be actually planning to watch when it comes on.

best line so far: "white man won't be denied"

Dear Frederick, thank you for your nice letter, but I am actually a US Marine who was born to kill, whereas clearly you seam to have mistaken me for some sort of wine sipping, communist **** suck. And although peace probably appeals to tree hugging bi-sexuals like you and your parents, I happen to be a death-dealing, blood-crazed warrior who wakes up every day just hoping for the chance to dismember my enemies and defile their civilizations. Peace sucks a hairy *******, Freddy. War is the ************** answer.

The book was good, but there's a ton of terminology in it that us Civilians will have a hard time grasping.

This miniseries does not have that issue.

Not having seen it, my only objection on the surface is the name of the series, leading one to think crazed militaristic killers intent on sowing death and destruction wherever they might be. I think we can all agree that happens if the Hellbeast shows up for a photo-op in unimportant former Soviet Baltic states.

Great show. Already set my TiVo to record the series.

My favorite line was: "You see, the Marine Corp. is like America's little pit bull. They beat us, mistreat us, and once in a while they let us out to attack somebody."

Totem, I know youre conservative so you can't really be opposed to what the marines actually do.

1- Visit foreign places.
2- Meet foreign people.
3- And Kill them.

And really, when describing the first recon division, you really wouldn't want them any other way. (and this coming from a "hippie dick suck")

Both the book and the series are as close to true to life as possible. The real Marines the actors are playing supervised, and in some cases are actually starring in, the series. And Evan Wright who was there for the events had a major role in the making of it too.

It's every bit as grounded in reality as Full Metal Jacket, just updated for the Iraqi invasion.

That reminds me of something that Nobby had posted awhile back.
He expressed confusion and frustration about having been ingrained with the view of Nelson Mandela as an African Osama Bin Laden decades ago and now seeing the man holding a Nobel Peace Prize.

"you have Born to Kill written on your helmet and you wear a Peace button. Is that supposed to be some kind of a sick joke!?"

Well it's no Apocalypse Now, but I'm sure that'll come soon.

Can people come up with a good phrase instead of this retarded sounding one?

And where did it come from anyway? A google search reveals 210,000 out of 249,000 results for "hit piece" are from the last 12 months.

Saw the first episode and really liked it. In a way, it reminded me of Heath Ledger's performance in The Dark Knight. The comments of the soldiers make you laugh... and then shudder. It's that kind of biting performance... it's so mixed because you know that it's real. These guys really are bloodthirsty (some of them). A lot of the dialogue is just normal stuff with guys bullsh*tting each other, but a lot of it shows an underbelly of violence: they've been cooped up in one area for too long, and they want to kill.

Looking forward to the rest of the series. And I loved the Rolling Stone imbedded reporter; comic relief at its best.

Mob Hit. Mob movies were often referred to as a "mob hit piece" and lately people just drop the mob.
