The british olymipic Authority have found themselves in the middle of an almighty b*tchfight about a clause in their bylaws that bans any Athlete caught taking drug from being selected for the British Olympic squad for life.

Quote:
Chambers' victory in Birmingham would normally mean he would be guaranteed a place on the plane to Beijing, but a BOA by-law prevents the former drugs cheat competing at the Olympics.

Now i have long since stopped believing that the top athlete's in the world are clean, the second they take food suplements or energy drinks they stop being "clean" and step into the murky world of enhancements.

Most British Athletes are wholy against Mr Chambers going but the rest of the world seems to find the UK stance odd, the oft repeated line from non UK athletes is "He hasn't killed anyone, a 2 year ban is enough"

Thoughts? Should all Athlete's caught be banned for life or is two years (or 4 making sure that they miss at least 1 olympics) enough?

Bare in mind that a simple throat lozenge would lead to you being banned.

To be fair, amphetamines stopped being mandatory in major league baseball in the late '70s, and cocaine stopped being so in the early '90s.

They're still optional though.

If a person has been caught competing unfairly before, they should not be allowed the privilege of competing again. In your hometown softball league, an exception wouldn't be unreasonable, but this is the Olympics, the king of all sporting competitions, and I can fully understand, respect and possibly even support the lifetime ban.

I agree with the lifetime ban. It's only a sport after all.If they are going to cheat they can go do something else with their lives.Giving them another chance is just giving them another chance of cheating only better this time.

I found it funny when the Canadian snowboarder got caught with THC in his bloodstream and they were talking about/did take away his gold medal as a result. It's marijuana! How does that enhance any athlete?

That being said, any athlete that gets caught having an over the counter medication drug in their system, should be banned one Olympics (assuming they can "prove" that it was an over the counter medication that caused the test failure). Anything else, bye bye for life.

All elite athletes dope, period. This absurd kabuki of punishing the less clever ones serves no one. Stop worrying about it, and let them use whatever they want. It'd generate a vastly leveler playing field.

Right to the point of escalation and then we get to watch vena cava veins pop like ballons in peoples foreheads because now they have to be even bigger, faster, stronger. It would certainly make Shot put entertaining. Which I'm all about.

Anything that makes Team Handball or Biathalon bearable is well worth it.

Curious as to why you say this. Or is it just a conclusion due to the number of people who've been caught and the depth of the schemes that have been uncovered. I do know an Olympic athlete that gets medals and doesn't dope, but can't really use that as an argument as I suppose you could say they're just lying or something.

They're lying.

Or they compete in some bizarre fringe event where there would be little benefit, I suppose.

I fenced as a kid. If I'd been left handed, I would have had a shot at making the national team. Or just better, I guess, that would have helped too.

No. You didn't bother to answer my question though, where are you getting the information that's convinced you of this?

I'm more interested in getting some information on it really, but feel free to put words in my mouth.

I've stealthily broken into every elite athelte's home at varois points in their training regimines and drawn blood while they slept.

It's supposition, obviously. If it makes you happy to believe that your friend is a magical hero who doesn't do what virtually every other athlete does to compete at a world class level, great. The world needs people like you to sell things to.

Doesn't really matter as long as it's consistant from athlete to athlete.

Quote:

No, if it led to a positive result it could be screened out.

The testing procedures are made clear to athletes, as are the products and ingredients that are banned.

If an athlete is using something with unknown ingredients (some herbal remedies and witch-doctor brews) they are knowingly taking a risk.
