A frenchman!

Or Frenchwoman, depending.

Yes, yes, once again, it's the 14th of July, sometimes called "Bastille Day" abroad, but more often than not called "Who the fUck gives a Shit?!". In France, we are quite creative and inventive, and so we call it "Le 14 Juillet".

Without further ado, I hereby Frenchize you!

BT: Marquis de Sade. A deprived and outrageous individual, famous for his pornographic and violent litterary style, he helped turn hardcore pornography into an accepted artform. Fascinating and repulsive at the same time, he shocked an entire generation through his gruesome tales of debauchery. He was unrestrained by morality, religion or law, and with the pursuit of personal pleasure as his highest principle. Oh yeah, and the other guy was a famous French writer.

Nobby: Henry IV. Famous for bridging the gap between Protestants (OOT) and Catholics (Asylum), this King was not only kind, he was the first revolutionary. He is credited with having ended the murderous civil war, a bit like our very own Nobbers Nobster Nobmeister Nobbissime. And they share the same birthday, 13 December 1553.

Smash: Jean Valjean. A little Bio, and an awesome, historically accurate little clip.

Joph & Flea: Pierre et Marie Curie : Devoted their lives to helping their community, him a hard-working lad, her a hard-working immigrant, their love story was known to all, and gave inspiration to thousands of [s]forum lurkers[s/] young men and women the world over.

Nexa: Carla Bruni: Talented, smart, beautiful, charming... And you can't help but like her Smiley: mad

Totem: Akhenaton: Both are extremely talented lyricists, controversial, admired, and feared in equal measure. Aslo, neither are white!

Gbaji: Marcel Marceau. Poetry through silence. Need I say more?

Varrus: Jean-Marie Le Pen. Fat, ugly, racist leader of the National Front prone to delusions of grandeur.

Tare: Edith Piaf. Mesmerising and enthralling.

Paulsol: Serge Gainsbourg: Hell-raising, drinking, drug-taking, rebel and poet, even in his old age.

Tarv: Napoleon. Shared loved of the sea, shared height, and shared hatred for the English.

Kelvy: Nostradamus: The one and only mystic.

Nepth: Abbe Pierre. Resistance fighter, extraordinary priest, devoted his life to helping the less fortunate, the closest any Frenchman has come to being a saint. Very nice.

Youshutup: Jean-Paul Sartre. Existentialism is nothing new, but he solved it.

Shadowrelm: Michel Foucault: Both write relatively simple things in a completely unintelligible style. Reading either of them will put you straight to bed, but will also give you nightmares.

Samira: Simone de Beauvoir. Need I say more?

Thumb: Brigitte Bardot. Sex icons. Enough said.

And some OOTers:

Anna: Sarah Bernhardt: Tragic, mysterious (and possibly lesbian) actress, who slept in a coffin. Only the most famous actress in the world (Though I guess that was before Angelina Jolie)

Mindel: Jeanne d’Arc. Fearless, took on half the men in the world, and won. Kicked ***, talked to God, and was burnt alive, what more could a woman want?

Sogoro: Jean Reno, King of cool.

Nixnot: Bertrand Delanoe. Loved by all Parisians, decided to go into high politics, satyed there for a while, only to decide not to after all. Also, gay.

Katie: Celine Dion. Almost as annoying. Thank God neither of them are French.

Ari: Coco Chanel Effortless, timeless grace.

Belkira: Sophie Marceau. At least that's I picture you...

Kain: Jacques Dutronc. "J'aime les filles" means "I love women". You can figure out the rest.

Usagi: Eric Cantona. Beauty and the Beast

RJ: Andre the Giant

BD: Alfred Dreyfus. Was at the centre of the biggest controversy and trial of his time. Wrongfully accused martyr, or a complete idiot? 100 years later, the jury is still out.

I miss government cheese. The powdered milk was horrible, but at least mom used to mix it half and half with real milk. The cheese though, that was another story. It was a block of cheddar larger than a standard brick. It was the first time I'd had cheese that wasn't either "american" or mozzerella on pizza. A slice of cheddar with an apple was heaven when I was a kid.

But it's French contempt. I believe that amounts to a really bad scolding from the school nurse because you can't stop making walrus teeth with her tongue depressors.

For the price that's a bloody decent wine.

It's what I use for the sauces in Bourguignons and Steak & Wine Pies, but eminently drinkable on its own.
