The wifie and I are going through our mid-30's life crisis and have no idea what we are going to do when we are able to retire, which should be in our mid 50's or so. Yes, we are quite the retirement savers...

We are not planning on children since we both seem to fit the role of "Aunt/Uncle who spoil their nieces/nephews" better then being good parents of our own.

There are a bunch of other variables that are quite boring and don't need to be rehashed here but basically our "retirement plans" are slighlty unclear.

What are you guys/girls planning on doing once you hit (or hopefully hit) the retirement age?

We plan to travel a lot. Also, we'd like to have a secondary lake/beach property that we can work on as a place to host our kids/grandkids for holidays. We are big retirement savers too...hope it all goes as we planned. =)

I have no lofty plans. Hopefully be financially sound and healthy enough to travel some. I'll likely have grand-kids before too long and imagine wanting to spend some time with them. Otherwise, I'd like to think I'll still be able to bike, hike, garden, sail, and play MMO's for many years into retirement.

The recent economic downturn has scared me a bit from a retirement stand-point. The husband and I both have some retirement investment, but will be relying on social security and my employers retirement pay-outs. I'm eligible for full retirement at 55, but will propably continue to work until my husband retires at 62, though perhaps at a different job.

Our dream is to purchase a small lot on an island down in the Grenadines, build a small house, and live there for a few months a year. Waking up to beautiful waters, scenery, and coconut trees would be great for a few weeks at least... Problem is that Donald Trump has been looking for places to ruin the area by building his massive resorts all over the place. Therefore prices are rising faster then we can save.

Another idea would be to retire to the North Carolina coast in the Wilmington/Southport areas. Heck, Bald Head island if we can afford it but thats seriously pushing it. We would have access to good health care and it's not a foreign country, which has its pro's and con's. Only problem I see is that its right in Hurricane Alley.

Still another idea would be to purchase about 20 acres or so and open up and animal rescue for dogs. I have been banned from the local SPCA because we can't handle the four dogs we have already, much less the hundreds of other ones I want to bring home...

Guess we still have 20 years to figure it out...

I plan on doing like every other retired Canadian. Live in Canada for 6 months during prime spring, summer and fall months, then move to Florida for the rest. Although, I'll probably opt for Myrtle Beach instead. Also, get me a gun.

My plans are to keep encouraging global warming so when I retire I will essentially live in Florida without having to move there. It'll be underwater by then anyway. Smiley: lol

Complete world dominion, and the complete obliteration of Vancouver, Canada because we had the name first and they stole it.

Lots of travel and being debt-free are our main retirement goals. Hopefully, our health will be good enough that we won't have to worry about lots of medical issues. And of course, being surrounded with lots of family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Guess we can kiss goodbye to most of the eastern seaboard when Britain decides to take action for much the same.

That's okay. Virus is definitely a bottom. Now all he has to do is somehow seduce Kao into giving him some sweet man lovin' while he cries, "spank me, big daddy!"

I doubt I'll be on this mortal coil long after retirement, so I'm interweaving retirement with my current career.

Work, rest, travel, allow American wimminz to seduce me, travel, drink bewz.
Rinse and repeat.

I'll probably be rotting before I'm able to retire. /poor

However, if I did happen to last that long... I guess I'd travel. Or sit at home and play any FF game that happens to be out at the time, assuming SE continues making games. <_<

I plan on doing the best of nothing. I will spend my days reading, wearing comfortable clothes and no shoes unless necessary whilst sipping mimosas with breakfast and wine after lunch. I'll hardly have to drive, except to pick up a variety of fine cheeses and veggies from whatever local farmer's markets are about and to stop in to the local used book store to see if there is anything new that might interest me. I will only make purchases in pairs, one hardcopy for addition to my library and a softcover for reading on the deck. I will develop odd tan lines and cut flowers from my garden and embarrass my grandchildren by having crazy hair and talking too loudly. If I can't sleep, it won't matter, since I'll have no schedule beyond keeping an appointment at a salon every few weeks to get my legs waxed...not out of necessity, but just to make the beauticians earn their keep. I'll dance in the middle of the night to loud music from the 80's and if my neighbors complain I'll pretend I'm senile and bake them a loaf of banana nut bread. I'll paint murals in every room of the house and hate them. I'll begin and fail at keeping a vegetable garden because I'm lazy and would get bored with it and the tomatoes will rot before I get around to canning them. I will keep chickens for a season and exclaim to whoever will listen (and those who really aren't) how much better the eggs are for precisely one season and then sell the lot of them because they are too messy to keep and too close to cook. I'll take piano lessons and ballroom dancing lessons and learn a language a year and forget it the next and pretend I've only got a few months left to live if anyone gives me a hard time.

Nexa, that reminded me of this:

Quote:

When I am an old woman I shall wear purple
With a red hat which doesn't go, and doesn't suit me.
And I shall spend my pension on brandy and summer gloves
And satin sandals, and say we've no money for butter.
I shall sit down on the pavement when I'm tired
And gobble up samples in shops and press alarm bells
And run my stick along the public railings
And make up for the sobriety of my youth.
I shall go out in my slippers in the rain
And pick the flowers in other people's gardens
And learn to spit.

You can wear terrible shirts and grow more fat
And eat three pounds of sausages at a go
Or only bread and pickle for a week
And hoard pens and pencils and beermats and things in boxes.

But now we must have clothes that keep us dry
And pay our rent and not swear in the street
And set a good example for the children.
We must have friends to dinner and read the papers.

But maybe I ought to practice a little now?
So people who know me are not too shocked and surprised
When suddenly I am old, and start to wear purple

Work, but less, and spoil grandchildren.

It's relationships with other people. At the end of the day, nothing else much matters.

I'm not surprised...it was clearly written about me.
