I see what Smash is saying. This is not child cruelty. This is two teenage boys (read: idiots) doing something they thought would be funny. You can't send every kid to prison every time they do something that ends up being stupidly dangerous. And the baby, well, babies are resilient. They bounce. Helps them survive growing up amongst rambunctious older siblings. Hell, seeing the video makes me think I'd like to try it - but being considerably older (twice as) I realize it is a very dumb thing to do. At the very least I'd put Thom in a crash helmet and use a low mattress.

I was launched when I was two (explains a lot, huh?)
My uncle is only 12 years older than me and he was left to babysit me one day. He thought it would be a good idea to take me outside, lay on his back, put me on his feet and launch me across the yard. He did this maybe 3 times until I landed on a rock and broke my collar bone. Of course I survived and I'm fine.
I watch that video and the mother in me is horrified. Of course I start to think that if that was MY child - O. M. G. Kill that teen that would dare do this to MY child! But the rational side of me realizes that we're just dealing with an idiot teen, just like my uncle. I doubt any real harm was intended.
And while I don't think I ever launched a baby or child when I was 16, I surely did a LOT of things that I'm not proud of and can only be filed under "I'm under the age of 25 and a complete idiot." We all have a file like that.
