How do taxes work when one moves states? For example, let's say things actually work out and someone actually hires me as something other than a glorified secretary sometime this year...

In January, do I file a Maine tax return, a Mass tax return, or both? Obviously, federal is the same.

Oh yes, if you are part of the year in Maine...they will want your money.

You'll need to do both states taxes, pro-rated based on the time spent in each state.

They've got my money already...I want to know how to get it back, haha. Maybe someday I'll make enough to not get it back, but not thus far.

Both though, gotcha, thanks.

I am thinking I don't want to move, except maybe Texas, no state taxes!!! You'd think with a name you could interchange with taxes, you'd collect them.

Remember too, if you get a job and move ...to it, you can deduct your moving expenses.

So save them receipts;)

Your tip for tomorrow:

The IRS won't bust you for prostitution if you remember to claim that income on your taxes.

Jesus Christ Neph, no means no. I already told you I'm not interested in your economic stimulus check.

Both. Oops. You already got the answer. One thing that's nice about Maine and Massachusetts is that they are the only two states that celebrates Patriot's Day so you won't lose that holiday. Also, Massholes are weirdly not into working very much, esp. during the summer.
