As some of might know, the "greatest player in the world", Ronaldo, is about to leave Manchester United to go to Real madrid.

Here is the reaction of the people running Manchester United, from their underground bunker in Old Trafford.

Two pretty big IF's in there Red.

Not really. The first "If" is irrelevant since the decision will come down to the Glaziers anyway. And they're business-minded, so they'll let him go for the right amount of money.

The second "if" is a bit trickier, but we're talking about Real Madrid here. I don't know if you remember, but in 2000, Real madrid had debts of approximately 100 million pounds. They "sold" their training centre to the government of Spain for, amazingly, about 100 million pounds. They were then given a brand new training centre on the outskirts of Madrid, for free. It's not a "normal" club. If they really want money, they'll find it, one way or the other.

I think the only "if" in this story is Ronaldo himself. If he really wants to go, he'll go. There is no way on Earth the Glazers will refuse to sell him for £70M so that he can sit on the bench for a year, or be a disruptive influence in the dressing-room, which will in turn halve his value.

The Glaziers have been saying for weeks that they will only sell if Fergie says he can go.

Ronaldo is worth £75mil over then next 4 years of his contract in shirt sales so it make sence for them you keep him money wise, if you remember the same story was banded about last summer.

and As a gooner you can easily draw parrallels to henry, who sayed for what 4 years? it never effected his form and he wanted out for the last two years he played for you.

I can see him going next year rather than this year, i'm sure fergie can talk him around for 1 more year.

Personally I have no idea why he would want to move for 2-3 years, he will be 26 by the time he comes to sign his next contract which he could write in a nice "Minimum release clause" for both parties and move to Real at his peak.

Mean while he could have another 3-4 trophies because if he goes he won't see a ECL semi for at least 3 years, the Spanish league is not strong right now, both Germany and Italy have a better style for European games (See Barca Vs Utd Semi) and the EPL sides will dominate until Blatter gets his max non homebased player rule past the European courts.

Yes, but we all know that what football managers/owners/players say is about as reliable as what politicians say. It's for short-term effect, and has absolutely no relation to the truth.

But Henry never went to the papers expressedly saying he wants to leave.

The more accurate parallel is with Anelka. Exact same thing happened. And they did the same with Zidane. It's always the same strategy from Real: They tell a player, unofficially, that if they say to their club that they wanna leave, they'll come up with the offer. And it makes perfect sense, since no one can keep a megastar unhappy. It worked for Figo, Zidane, Anelka, Beckham... I'd bet it'll work for Ronaldo too.

But I agree you can never know in football, which is part of what makes it so much fun. Still, if I had to place a bet, I'd bet on him leaving this summer.

As far as I'm concerned, He can go. We'll do just fine without him.

I agree that the transfer fee are not a big issue for Madrid... doesn't mean it will be a good investment.
