Have they changed up the Qeynos and Erudin areas too? Those were the newbie areas that I always liked the most.

I dunno, but the dark elf starting ground was unrecognizable.

I hope the download/install/patch process doesn't take 2 or 3 days because I'll probably lose interest by then.

But, I've been playing FFXI lately. Can't believe I got hooked on that again after 4 years.

I know. I ran my DE through there from CL and I used to always look for the "newbie log" to know when to get off the path for Neriak, and I think the log's gone.

Also, my DE used to be able to get into Freeport. Not anymore.

Huh, that's too bad. It was fun to go into the Freeport sewers and hang out with the dark elves in there.

I have had both EQ and EQ2 accounts in the past. I'll install EQ for a while for the nostalgia factor, but I have no intention of playing either one very much.

But, if someone can get a free month out of me playing the free stuff, let me know and I'll put you as a reference or whatever.

Cool and the gang, which would be the best city to start in? i only had baby's in EQ2 so starting again won't be any hardship.

I was already thinking off starting it now i have more free time so i might aswell start on a server i know people.

If you start a Sarnak or a neutral character, you can start in Timorous Deep, which is the newest starting area, and it has better armor and quest rewards. But if you really want to start a good or evil character, you can travel there fairly easy too.

Well, johnny, Tare and DSD are all max level, so you're not going to those zones anyway, haha.

My main is 51, but I have some alts bouncing around there. One is in TD now, level 14 or so.

Travel has always been very easy in EQ2, so it won't really matter where you start.

Tarv it doesnt matter what city you start in to join us. Cool thing about EQ2 is that once you hit lvl 10 anyone of any levell can mentor down to your level and join a group. Not to mention you get PLed a bit that way as you get a bonus for them mentoring down to your level. Unfortunately lately I havent had time to group up with too many peeps (Sorry guys!!) as my guild is pushing to get everyone their mythicals. But we have a chat channel you can join, and if you love love love the game enough you think you will stick with it for awhile, lemme know and I can get you a guild invite. Recruitment is closed except for friends who think they'll be sticking arounf (cough cough Bhodi/BT) Smiley: smile

If you join up type /join asylum. You can see who is in the channel by typing /whochannel # (# being which number it was assigned). I'm usually on Voyde or Faiille

I know, I know. I'm a flaky suck.

What's a mythical? Like epics on crack I'm assuming?

yup. Back in EQ1 you had the "epic". in EQ2 they have epic like weapons per expansion usually, but this is the one that is supposed to be "The Epic" of all time. YOu start off with a long quest line which the reward is your "epic". But then if you raid you can get the mythical version of your epic, nicknamed mythicals. basically it allows casual players to get a really good weapon, but still allow raiders something to work for and be very worthwhile. An example of the epics I have and are getting are:

Monk group epic which I currently have
Monk Mythical hopefully will have real soon

Dirge group epic I have
Dirge Mythical will have soon

Logged onto my 57 chanter with 6 aa's a few nights ago. Promptly buffed pet, got pet weapons & armor from twisty bazaar, logged into a new zone...

and got crushed by a green.

SO whats the max amount of AA's nowadays? 5000?

And I hated the revamped zones. Frankly the only reason I've gone back so many times is the nostalgia factor, painfully dorky as that is, and when I stepped into the new Freeport it was as if Sony had raped my memories.
-----------------------------------------------------------

thats pretty much the way i feel too. i went back atleast once a year for the trip down memory lane. really really hate what they did to freeport, commons, oasis of mar and all the rest of their revamps.

basically what they did was shrink and combine a few of the old zones into one zone that takes up less resources. cant blame them really, NOONE usses them except the ocasional toon taking a walk down memory lane, and even then, they dont stay longer than it takes to run through the zones. they could cut the entire origonal game out and it would probably be weeks before anyone noticed if ever.

reguardless, it sucked any desire i used to have to step back in for a looksie.

other than the top end raiding game, and their twinks, EQ is dead. over 300 zones now and if there are people in more than 10 of them i would be really supprised. WoW nailed the market. the "pain for gain" concept worked in EQ at launch because there was no where else to go. it doesnt work anymore. the thought of "medding" after a fight just seems.....stupid. almost as stupid as spending 3 or 4 minutes to kill......one.......light blue or green mob. thats about what you can expect if you dont have a twink or raid gear.

AoC saw the light. probably wasnt a good idea to make the equpment requirements so high, and they certainly should have spent a whole lot more time developing their casters, but they abandoned their origonal group concept and banked on WoW style game play. and its paying off for them. Vanguard is dead because they couldnt/wouldnt see the light and change with the demand. the days of "pain for gain" and forced grouping are gone. most people want to PLAY not hold down a second job in their time off. most people.

still,

if SOE would take the origonal EQ, not the revapmed model, rework the game play and quests so its a whole lot more like WoW and a whole lot less like EQ or EQ2, i would buy it in a new york minute. reguardless of the graphics requirements. to this day i think EQ1 has the best mmorpg world out of any online game.

its their game play that sucks wind, not their world. they are revamping the world though. 10 years and counting and they still dont get it.........

And once again, shadowrelm deludes himself that his opinion has any relevance to the actual merit of a game.

I installed and hopped on EQ a few months back and no idea what I was doing. I couldn't even remember how to equip things or open my bags. It was hilarious. I logged on my mule only to find she was in some empty room in the bazaar - not the laggy hellhole I'd left her in. Now if only I could transfer her eleventy billion plat over to my EQ2 account.

Yay!

If you are serious, you basically can, just takes steps. You can buy items in baz in EQ 1 that are redeemable in the LON card game, then trade in LON for items that are redeemable in EQ2, then auction in EQ2 that you are selling that item in LON for plat in EQ 2.

I'm just so used to easier-to-use interfaces from other games now that EQ is nearly unplayable for me. I gave it a shot just for nostalgia's sake, but the camera didn't follow right, you couldn't change the direction in which you were looking just by dragging your mouse, none of the keyboard shortcuts were the proper letter (for example, "C" which should bring up your character sheet, instead "considers" whatever you have targeted) and for the life of me I couldn't figure out how to inspect an item to compare it to my existing equipment without a handy tooltip that pops up whenever you hover your mouse over it.

I'm sure I would get back in the groove eventually, but I doubt I'm gonna bother actually playing long enough to accomplish it.
