What would you do with two houses, besides pay the property tax every year? I mean, it's not like you have a good chance of selling it quickly.

How's the "buy-to-let" market in the US? That seems to be what most people in the UK do with second houses.

It's hellishly easy as well, just sign up with a lettings agency and sit back, they do the rest. They find the person to live in your apartment/house, they collect the rent, they take a cut and send you the rest. My mother went to Asia for a year, she did this with her apartment and basically got a second income.

I have been hiding under the rock of apathy. Mostly just because I wanted a break from this place. Of course, like a siren's song it calls to me, beckoning me to it's inviting shores. Daytime firewall issues now, so nighttime only posting. Not that much of an issue, now that Dana can't be ***** to do 10k titles.

Paulsol, you live in a special case backwater that really doesn't count in comparison to the rest of the world, don't you? That aside though, doesn't the Maori population kind of take you guys out of the running for world's best anything?

You're in the right place, then, although San Diego is never hot.

Booooorrrrr--riiiiinngggg....

Shit, we've exceeded the temperature range for San Diego daily this past week. On both ends of the spectrum.

You say that like it's a good thing.

Here's the trump card though. San Diego (ok, far southern California) is one of the few places in the world where you can wake up in a snow covered cabin, ski for a bit, then head out to the beach for some noon surfing/bodyboarding, then head out to the desert for an afternoon of buggyriding, then stop in the mountains and camp out.

All of those can be reached within a two hour drive of San Diego (the beach obviously closer). While the weather in the city alone doesn't change much, there's enough terrain variation in all directions to allow for an amazing variety of activities, depending on what you're interested in.

Of course it is, you're forced to cope with one 24/7.

You forgot "drive to Mexico and catch the clap"

I agree, though, that do anything interesting you need to drive around two hours from SD.

Lived in Cen Cal for about 8 years.

I do like San Dog, but I have a very general dislike for the entire state.

I do have to admit, that is one of the best aspects of living in San Diego. I adored doing that when I was younger and gas prices weren't an issue.

Since I was born and raised in San Diego and most of my hugely extended family is either in San Diego or at least in Southern California, I can't see myself living anywhere else. I'm in San Diego, more because my family is here than any other reason. I want my children to grow up with the feeling of security and abundance that I experienced.

But Sea World, the Zoo, Wild Animal Park, Balboa Park, the beaches, Legoland are all nearby. All the theme parks of Los Angeles are about 2 hours away. I do like going to Tijuana. The weather, for the most part, is perfect for my tropical DNA.

Yeah, housing is expensive and the cost of living is high, but my and my husband's salaries are able to match it.

San Diego has its problems and issues, like any other city or region, but I'll take those with the positive aspects that I get living here.

So, why do I just want to get in my car and drive away from everything today?
