gas, the new car payment.Follow

#1 May 30 2008 at 7:47 AM Rating: Decent
610.00 dollars. thats what i spend for a months worth of gasoline to power 2 automobiles for appox 3 hours a day combined, mabe less. granted, one of them is a suv my wife drives mabe 10 miles a day, but the other is a 4 cylinder chevy pos.

thats almost twice as much as i pay to power my house 24/7 in miami with AC running day and night.

thats about what i pay for my wifes 35k suv every month in car payments. the gasoline now costs more every month than the automobile you buy that usses it.

/preying for electric battery powered cars. good thing we gave them a 14 billion dollar tax break. if we hadnt, exxon might have not have broken the 10 billion dollar mark in profits last quarter. ok, im done. rant over.

on the bright side, Blue Cross Blue Shield rased my yearly deductible from 250 bucks to 600 bucks for the familey. found that out when i got the hospitol bill for my daughters x-ray last month. ok, really, done this time.

ready for a tea party yet?

Someone with a truck was gassing up yesterday by me. I didn't even know some of the swear words he was saying after he finished topping it off. And the truck was one of those big dual-cab trucks on a lift kit.

We're spending around $450 a month right now on gas.

I roughly figured $4-hundred-somethin' although that includes Flea's bajillion mile commute from the cornfields new subdivisions of the southwest suburbs to the cold streets of Chicago.

I agree, unless they have 6 kids or something and there's an actual use for a giant bus that can transport many people.

Even then, you can be economical. Hummers and Escalades are unnecessary by any measure.

Sure, but a lot more justifiable if you're getting 16 miles/gallon to transport 8 people instead of 2.

My husband got his new Ford Focus Monday afternoon. He's been averaging between 43 - 45 mpg this week on his trips to work and back. Its about 80% highway miles.

Now...'sigh'...he wants another garage.

Yeah, hard to fit a Focus into a standard garage. What?!

My co-worker drives a Dodge diesel (250? or 2500?). He ******* and moans every time he drops $125.00 + to fill his tank up.

But when I ask him if he is willing to downsize to a smaller vehicle, he wants nothing to do with it... This is the typical american approach. Its the same with water heaters. Only in America do we need to heat water in a large tank 24/7. Europe and Japan have been using Instant electric/gas water heaters for quite some time.

The wife and I are seriously going to look at hybrids/electric cars when it comes time to but another car.

Step 1: Buy a ramp
Step 2: Park Focus on truck bed

FIN!

Still not worth it, yet. Get a Civic or equivalent.

Maybe next year when Honda releases the cheaper versions though!

Maybe. For me to notice, they'd need to actually develop technology that provided a better performance/mpg ratio. Sticking two giant batteries in a car, then replacing it's 140HP engine with a more fuel efficient one that generates 107HP and touting the gas millage gains as coming from the "hybrid" part is just borderline retarded. They used to make a small engine Civic that got 45mpg. Now with the "hybrid system" and that same small engine they get 47mpg.

Not a believer, yet. When they start producing hybrids with the same power as current Civics and 45mpg, then we'll be somewhere.

OK so if she gets 10 MPG and gas is US$4/gallon, she's using one gallon per day at 30 days/month that is US$120/month. Leaving you paying: US$490/month in gas at $4/gal = using 123 gallons per month. Assuming you're getting 30 miles/gallon, you could save about half that getting 60 miles/gallon which is $245/month.

Can you double your gas millage (of the chevy only) for only $245/month?

Perhaps you could get a little 50 mile/gallon old Honda Civic or Geo Metro or something. I just gave one of those (very old Honda) away a couple months back to a friend.

With our Ion we're spending about $100-$120 a month. We've definitely cut down on our travel. The wife's parents live about 50 miles away and we used to visit them a couple of times a month, not so any more.

With my ION, I spend about $70 a week on gas. But I have a 120 mile round trip commute five days a week.

My husband probably puts $70 a month in his Civic, as he works so much closer to home than I do.

So we're spending about $350 a month on gas, which is about $50 more than our car payment.

Being the conservative that I am, /signed.

You made a dumb *** decision to waste a non-renewable resource. I'm glad you pay $700 a month in payments + $700 a month in gas just so you can drive a small tank to the grocery store.
